Vanquish Eyewear

So did any of you guys happen to see that ad for free polarized sunglasses in the Car&Driver and Road&Track mags this month? Just have to pay $10-$20 for shipping. I'm thinking of picking them up just to check them out. I have never seen polarized sunglasses this cheap.

Might get that or maybe more of a sports type for outdoor use. These are good for mostly driving and walking. http://www.vanquisheyewear.com/details.php?id=VQ8
http://www.vanquisheyewear.com/details.php?id=R1

It should keep me covered till I have enough money saved up for real sunglasses.

What do u guys think?

Just thought you might like to read this.... NEVER buy cheap sunglasses. I don't

"Is There Really Any Difference?
A pair of sunglasses seems so simple -- it's two pieces of tinted glass or plastic in some sort of plastic or metal frame. How much more straightforward can something get? It turns out that there are many different things you can do with two pieces of glass, and these things can have a big effect on you when you use the lenses. As you will see in this article, there really is a difference between the various sunglasses you'll find out there.
There are four things that a good pair of sunglasses should do for you:

Sunglasses provide protection from ultraviolet rays in sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) light damages the cornea and the retina. Good sunglasses can eliminate UV rays completely.

Sunglasses provide protection from intense light. When the eye receives too much light, it naturally closes the iris. Once it has closed the iris as far as it can, the next step is squinting. If there is still too much light, as there can be when sunlight is reflecting off of snow, the result is damage to the retina. Good sunglasses can block light entering the eyes by as much as 97 percent to avoid damage.

Sunglasses provide protection from glare. Certain surfaces, such as water, can reflect a great deal of light, and the bright spots can be distracting or can hide objects. Good sunglasses can completely eliminate this kind of glare using polarization (we'll discuss polarization later).

Sunglasses eliminate specific frequencies of light. Certain frequencies of light can blur vision, and others can enhance contrast. Choosing the right color for your sunglasses lets them work better in specific situations.
When you buy a pair of cheap sunglasses, you often give up all of these benefits and can even make things worse. For example, if your sunglasses offer no UV protection, you increase your exposure to UV rays. The cheap sunglasses block some of the light, causing your iris to open to allow more light in. This lets in more of the UV light as well, increasing the damage UV light can cause to the retina.
Top Sunglass Manufacturers
Black Flys
Bolle'
Cebe
Costa Del Mar
Eyehawk
Maui Jim
Native Eyewear
Oakley
Ray-Ban
Revo
Serengeti
Sexx Vision
Shields
Sun Tiger
Vuarnet

So there is a difference. Buying the right pair of good sunglasses for the conditions in which you use them gives you maximum protection and performance.

The sidebar shows some of the top sunglass manufacturers. Manufacturers of other products sell sunglasses, too. From Nike and Timberland to Gucci and Kenneth Cole, many big brands include sunglasses among their product lines. Many sunglass manufacturers make huge claims about the features and special qualities of their products. Prices can range from less than $20 up to several hundred dollars depending on the features and the name.

Then there are the imposters. You go to a discount shop or a flea market and see vendors offering sunglasses that look exactly the same as the high-dollar brand names for a fraction of the cost. Are you really paying that much for a name or are there fundamental differences between the look-alike sunglasses and the brand-name ones?

The biggest problem with cheap sunglasses is in the way the lenses are made. Inexpensive sunglasses have lenses made of ordinary plastic with a thin tinted coating on them. While the tint color and a similar frame design may make them look like Oakley X-Metal Romeos or Ray-Ban Predators, the actual lenses are very different. "

Does it make a small difference that these Vanquish lenses protect against UVA, UVB, and are Polarized? I thought that might be decent for $10 glasses compared to what u would buy in like a wallgreens or something. lol

So how do designer sunglasses compare to those brands? Like Gucci, Prada, D&G, etc.

I want some Maui Jim Titaniums, but I'm a poor college student.

Ok, poor as in I don't feel like dropping 200+ for sunglasses. I didn't pay for the car, just insurance and gas. So I have money, I just try to use my head when buying stuff otherwise I'll be broke like most college kids. And a lot of it is tied up in a Roth IRA or other investments. Because as cool as nice sunglasses are, I can pass for now. I don't even drive much right now since I'm in the dorm the entire week. I'll buy some in the future. Plus I'm brown, so I have savings ingrained in me by my parents.

Good sunglasses are so damn expensive, and they never last me more than a year. Every 4-5 years I'll splurge. I'm getting that itch, to buy a new pair for the summer....I really like those Revos with blue lenses.

I personally wouldn't buy blue lenses. The lens color actually makes a difference in how u see things. Blue is only for show really. I'd get grey or brown.

So I got them today. Quality is good for $15, came w/ 4 lenses. Only slight problem is that the lenses are bigger than I thought. I put them on and walked to a friends room and he was like "dude, i think my grandpa has smaller glasses". He was exaggerating a bit. I was hoping they would be a bit slimmer. Lenses are roughly 1 5/16" tall and 2 1/2" wide at the largest parts. Too big? lol

real sunglasses like maui jims and revos will do what they are supposed to do... block out the harmful rays and enable you to see in any condition even cloudy weather clearer (polarized). designer sun glasses can look cool or whatever but usually dont give you all the protection and sun blocking satisfaction you'd want unless you go with a dark tinted lens but even then. on the other hand polarized lenses can make lcd screens go black like idrive and other radios

They r plenty tough. hehehe I wore some fake oakleys for years (just when driving, not outside) and i've never had a problem. Actually my eyes felt better w/ them on. Cheapest sunglasses ever, picked it up w/a fake rolex...both for $10 in Turkey when I was younger. I have since gotten a real watch. lol

Yea when I get some money, i'll prolly pick up some ray-bans since Maui Jims are really expensive. But these are the best $15 sunglasses I have seen. But I wish they were smaller.

Moral: Never buy anything expensive online w/o seeing it in person first.

I have a pair of versace's. They are prescriptions, so insurance covered more than 1/2.
