DeltaWing crash

Just ran across this on Drivers' Republic. Obviously not M3-specific, but interesting. Nissan DeltaWing racer gets sideswiped by green Porsche GTC car, immediately flipping the DeltaWing. The driver ends up sliding on his head.

The DeltaWing is a new design that's supposed to revolutionize sports car racing with a lightweight, efficient platform. But seeing this makes me wonder about the inherent stability of the car. The extremely narrow front track, almost like an exaggerated top fuel dragster, would seem to make the car easy to tip over from a side impact. It's like a tricycle.

That sucks for the DW team and driver. The GTC car had plenty of room to avoid the incident.

or if you get rear suspension damage/flat tire you chassis drags on the ground and you cant get back to the pits. Seams less than ideal for endurance racing. I can appreciate the efficiency part but the narrow front end is a gimmick........you better be fast if you look that silly.

Whoa. Hope the driver's neck is okay. Definitely need better rollover protection in that thing.

The team made an official statement that the driver's helmet did not scrape the ground. BTW, the main chassis/monocoque is taken directly from the Auston Martin LMP car...

I agree. Even if his head didn't hit the ground, it was close enough that I would be worried.

LMFAO! It does like that. Now I'm wondering about the co-drivers.
