99.9% of teenagers who drive M3 are because their parents bought it for them

I went from an e60 M5 to an e90 M3. Not the same as the M6, but similar. The first thing you are going to do is hate SMG. then, you will get used to it. But, it's definitely not as sophisticated as M-DCT (which is still not perfect and has it's quirks).
But, gas mileage... it doesn't sound like my, but I drove both cars the same way, and the M5 got 10 mpg, and my M3 gets 17. It doesn't sound like a huge difference, but when you can only do 160 or so miles on a tank, it starts to feel pretty constraining. The S85 sounds AWESOME, nothing you can do to the S65 makes it sound as good. I loved the car for that, and probably why I got such lousy mileage. (although, the Corsa on my E90 sounds pretty good, even the cheap Magnaflow I had on the E60 M5 sounded really good.) I really didn't find the E60 M5 to feel faster, the E90 is geared shorter. And, the newer cars are posting some pretty amazing acceleration figures. My ass dyno says they are similar and so does a vbox. But, congrats on the new car! Hopefully you enjoy it. I've always liked the way the M6 looks, because it's so different than most other cars. |

Wow, congrats Dave! I just read this thread now and come to think of it, I saw a white M6 this past weekend (wish I can remember where... I was all over the place, but it was definitely parked in an industrial parking lot) and it was tinted real dark and had spec5's installed. Looked really good!
Let us know how the car feels!

Congrats on the car- I went the other route; M6 to M3 and have no regrets. My M6 was medium modded with exhaust, pulley, ecu, and rpi scoops but the tranny drove me crazy versus the DCT in my E92. But it was arguably better looking than my M3. From a dig my modded M3 (all bolt ons) would be probably faster with the DCT but it would not stand a chance at higher speeds. But speed was and is only one facet and I found the handling and suspension of the M3 to be superior. Your mileage may vary.
Either way great car and enjoy!! Here was my old M6:

Dave, with all the competent shops in Toronto such as EU Autowerks and Bimmersport, just to name a few, I'm curious as to why you'd drive to Chicago just to have your exhaust and pulleys installed. I could understand if you were installing a blower but for just an exhaust and pulleys it seems a bit far. Just my opinion.

So now that I'm just doing the exhaust for now, and I already had it lowered locally, there was no point in going to Chicago anymore, the reason I was going to go was both because I always wanted to see IND in person, and because I figured that my gf and I could make a little weekend trip out of it. The downside was putting nearly 2000km on the car. Therefore, I had it shipped.

Congratulations on getting the M6! Definitely a great choice given that its the last of the V10 normally aspirated engines.

Call Domenic or Courtney at EU Autowerks in Woodbridge and tell them I sent you. They're top notch!! Especially Courtney, he's a genius and very experienced. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, one of their top techs Laurence is on this board.

One other slight disappointment potentially experienced is that the iDrive and disc based nav system in the M6 of that vintage sucks compared to the current systems in the M3. Never noticed it though UNTIL I drove a car with the new systems. Last edited by BigHat; 08-12-2010 at 12:09 PM.. |

Other than the sound and power of the motor, I really miss: - comfort access on the rear doors - more positive engagement in first gear coming off from a stop (SMG is better than M-DCT in this regard) - little things like, the HUD, the power tilt/telescoping wheel - headrests that don't destroy your neck |

I will be doing a full photoshoot in the coming weeks...but here are some pics of the modding process.
Tints, Smoked Side Markers & Painted bumper reflector. CF Mirror Cover Install & LED Plate Lights. 21" 360 Forged Spec 5ive. I bought these from another member on m5board.com , I didn't like the black windows on the center of the wheel, so I had my rim guy remove the black paint and brush the wheel. Pics of the process and the finished product RD Sport Springs Before: After: LUX H8 Angel Eyes The M6 also uses an H8 bulb, so I thought might as well try to install the LUX unit and it worked Only problem is it gives an error, so just need new resistors Rims Mounted & Installed Calipers with ///M Decal Eisenmann Race Exhaust A few pics...
