Hybrid M3?

99.9 mpg while cruising at 90 mph. Beat that gas mileage!

I believe this was a computer glitch. I hadn't reset the overall MPG in 20K miles and it was at 18.6 and then for some reason it jumped to 99.9. I had to reset it to get it to start working again.

It happens because you are applying very little throttle while the car is travelling very fast. It takes it a bit to get enough sample data and come back down to reality. You could also probably duplicate this behavior by reseting it while coasting down a hill for example.

On a side note, 18.6 is a great average. Mine never goes above 17, though I do have a heavier, less fuel efficient E93.

No this is not the case. This isn't instant MPG. It had been displaying the MPG for the average over 20K miles and then it suddenly went to 99.9 at some point and then never changed until I reset it.

Anyway even if it were instant mpg or I had just reset it I would have to be driving off a cliff, to be off the accelerator, to get 99.9 mpg at 90mph.

It is essentially instant MPG when you first reset it. It starts sampling gas used and distance travelled immediately. The sensors/software aren't perfect though, which can lead to the 99.9 situation upon reset. At least, that's how I recall it from messing with it in the past.

Ok, I see. When I read "I hadn't reset the overall MPG in 20K miles...", I thought you meant that as in "until just before taking this pic".

bolded "to" = "or"?

You're right, it shouldn't register 99.9 as long as some gas is being used but as I say I've been able to get it to go to 99.9 in the past myself upon reset. Though I can't say I recall exactly what sort of situation will cause it.
