Same leather material/texture (novillo) on both Speed Cloth & full leather versions?

I read in a BMW product info it's not but need to confirm it's not a typo or I didn't mis-read it. Supposedly, Speed Cloth leather has the same leather material & texture as a regular 3-series leather. Can anyone confirm this? This decision's driving me nuts! I still have a few days to change my order if needed. Thx!

I have speed cloth on order. My guess is that it is not the premium leather but who knows.

I'm assuming it's dakota leather just like on the regular 3-series.

I got this quote from an official BMW Media Information pdf file (pg. 16; 1st paragraph) somewhere on this forum. If you guys/gals can't find it then I'll look when I get home later tonight since I'm about to leave the house.

"The sporting, “basic” trim is a combination of cloth and leather called “Speed”. Newly developed, fully tanned Novillo leather then comes as an option offering a particularly smooth and velvety surface in elegant and sporting style."

That's why I was asking if that was a typo or am I mis-reading it. I mean, I knew BMW charges an arm & a leg for every option but I don't think they'd charge $950 just for additional SAME leather on the:

- Lower half backrest insert of front seats
- full insert area of bottom seat cushion
- rear seat inserts &
- door panels

It is Novillo leather. The Dakota has a texture to it that reminds me of leatherette. BMW has remained consistent. The cloth/leather in my Comp.Pkg E46 ///M3 also used the same premium leather material (Nappa) on the bolsters, etc.

I've clarified the statements. They don't give any clue to what leather is used with the cloth. I haven't seen it in person. I don't believe it would be of the same quality as the Novillo full-leather option, given the cost difference, as you reference.

I have seen it person (I have Speed Cloth), but I haven't seen a full leather M3 example, so I can't be absolutely positive but I *think* they are the same. I CAN say it is definitely not the same leather as in my '06 330xi

See my garage over here <-- for some pics

Have you seen both (speed vs novillo) in person to confirm this? If no then we still need a confirmed answer.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking but it'd be nice to have a confirmation just to be sure.

Can you do me a huge favor within the next few days?...I'm sure your local BMW dealership has at least one M3 in stock (at least all the one's around here do). So is there anyway you can go & see/touch the full leather option to confirm? I have a few days to change my order so I'd really appreciate it.

Actually my dealer never does ///M demos, they sell them all to customers. Mine was the first, the second isn't expected in until mid-May. That's why I can't compare!

Wow, I can't believe they don't even have one on the showroom floor. Oh well...

Actually yes I have. I ran across a guy in Santa Monica that had speed cloth in his car. As for the Novillo, every ///M3 that I've seen on dealer showroom floors (..or on dealer lots) has Novillo, so I've seen it countless times. If you've ever seen Dakota leather, you will not/cannot mistake it for Novillo. If...the leather is not Novillo, then it looks & feels exactly like it (..not Dakota).

I tried to find a close up picture by doing a quick search, but I have not the time to look. This picture somewhat illustrates what I mean by the texture of Dakota. The Novillo is smooth, and lacks texture.

Thx for the info & pic even though I've seen/touched Dakota leather in a 3-series. I should have made my question more clear...I meant have u seen both Speed cloth/leather & Novillo leather at the sametime not just see Speed cloth/leather one day & then see Novillo leather another day. At least we can conclude Speed cloth/leather isn't the same thing as Dakota leather then.

I was on the fence between black leather and speed cloth. In the end I save $950 and that settled it, that and I like the stripes down the middle of the seat.

Just based on the picture I can tell that is Novillo, not the leather I have in my 335i. I am up for speed cloth!

My dealer now has an E90 M3 on the showroom and the leather (Novillo) is definitely the same leather as used in my speed cloth E92 M3

Which dealers do you go? There's 2 M3 in Ganley and the one that's in showroom has full leather.

I go to Ganley, but I only visit once a week or so. There weren't any there roughly a week ago, and normally they never put ///Ms on the showroom. As you can see in my previous post I did evenually see this car - JzB/FR leather. Now I can say I'm not crazy about FR but it looks OK with JzB

If the second one you saw was AW that one has been sold & now gone
