I just emailed my dealer again asking if they can provide the part numbers. If I get them, I will post them.

What dealer? I tried at my dealer and even opened a case with BMWNA a couple months ago and got shot down. Said there was nothing wrong with the part and that it isn't "designed to protect window tint films." Would love any more info if you have it. Thanks.

Just called my sales person friend. We shall see what he says about this warranty matter. I think if they just straight up replace the seal, it won't work. Even people with brand new seals are having their tints ripped up. They'll need some new ones with some felt on both sides (like the Moleskins)

Right. If it's not a new part or an improved version of the old part, then replacing it will be pointless. I'm hoping (and assuming) that the part has been improved and now has full padding.

My dealer said he will try to send me the part numbers...

There is a Similar Thread on E90Post

I've read through the threads on both boards in the last couple of days and don't recall seeing a cross link. Some people are posting in both threads.

E90Post scratched tint thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=300239&highlight=scratched+tint

I heard from two local dealers that they are only replacing the seals with the SAME hard plastic ones. What a scam! The tint will scratch all over again.

The Tint Protector kit is supposed to last the life of the car and for $30 and an easy install it's a no brainer.

E90Post scratched tint thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=300239&highlight=scratched+tint
Yeah, I posted in that one and referenced my post in this one. I would say that the threads should be merged but I guess that isn't possible since one's on e90post and the other's here. Shouldn't matter much anyway because after the news below, it doesn't sound like there will be much need for further discussion on this since BMW apparently isn't stepping up to the plate with an acceptable fix.

Yep, what a bummer. Back to the moleskin plan for sure.

Question is...does it really stay in place in extreme cold and extreme hot weather, you know things can become loose especially in hot weather where the interior is even hotter than ambient temps. Anyone have bad experiences with this? My tinter said he'd retint my windows and he would use a felt but i'm not sure if the "moleskin" kit would be better? Any experiences with this product?

Tint Protector Moleskin uses an acrylic resin glue. It won't come off when it gets hot or cold. That's the whole point of their product.

I also have an E90 m3 and all 4 windows have scratches on them. I have the carbon tints and within a month or two they all got scratches. The tinter said it was caused by the window coming out of alignment, some1 else told me it was because of dirt but i am not sure. Still have not had them fixed yet. Not sure what to do...

6 pages of "tint scratched" posts...

Never heard of an issue like this before...

Seems like it's a waste to the tint the windows on E90/E92s... Not to mention the whole dot-matrix pain in the ass for the rear window...

+1. I'm not even going to bother doing tint. Planning on using that saved money for other mods

I know from first hand experience that the moleskin, (tint protector) works. I tinted at first with no moleskin and 3 windows scratched pretty much immediately. I then installed the moleskin and redid the 3 windows. My car is 1 year old now and I have zero scratches. It is a easy install also. The rubber strips pop out, just clean them off with alcohol to aid in the adhesive bonding and lightly scuff them with fine grit sandpaper and you are good to go. I posted some pics of it in the beginning of this thread I think.

Ordered the Tint Protector kit yesterday. Will post before and after pics when installed and re-tinted.

Sweeeet! I know the tint protector works too. It's been on four of my cars for 3+ years with no problems.

The tint protector kit says to roll down the windows to remove the door panels. I already have the tint installed so I don't want to scratch it more by doing this.

Can they be removed without rolling down the windows?

You have to roll down the windows to gain access to the weather strip.

Don't worry, your tint won't be scratched with only one roll down.

I managed to do it without rolling the window down. Not sure why they say to do it.

And I got two decent scratches from rolling down the driver's window exactly once (then finding out about the problem here).
