Very interesting project, rear mount turbos, if engineered correctly, won't create precipitious lag. My car will be going very soon for a rear mounted turbo and the results on the test car were impressive.

If you guys are looking for someone to do software, I would steer clear of AA and especially if you are in the northeast, give ICS a call. They are the real deal.

Yea i know we are going to have to get a tune and most likely injectors.... maybe use the m5,m6 injectors?

Maybe talk to HP freaks about tunning and ill check out ICS

Hopefully, the kit would be < $10k (at least). =)

Looks cool, though.

A rear mounted turbo will definitely increase lag if you compared it with a front mounted turbo setup - but it's all relative and the results with a rear mounted turbo on a V8 engine may be acceptable. You will certainly lose the immediate throttle response - that long intake tract will take a little bit to become fully pressurised.

Its all about sizing the turbos correctly... im not even kidding you my rear mount on my GTO had less lag than the kit i had with the turbos in the engine compartment

If you guys are looking to other companies to develop software it's pretty obvious that this kit will never materialize. This thread needs to die or be closed in the best interest of everyone.

Wow Mr. Nagative over here. Tuning is not an issue. It should be a fun project. I would just ask that if you don't have constructive critisism please don't post.
Thanks

well there are a bunch of companies that can tune an e92 m3 its just a matter of finding someone you can tune the m3 and knows what they are doing with FI

ok...so I have all that fabricating stuff on lock. I've been in talks with some VERY Reputable shop around here about fabricating a Sick intake manifold, the piping/turbo and intercooler setup. Now that the mechanical part is taken care of we'll see what I could come up with on the tuning side. I think this is going to be a long road...

A rear mount turbo kit would be great on these cars, seriously.

I would be very interested on that project. If it is also cost efficient next to the competition....i would definitely go for it...

I do totally agree with Jeremy Clarkson on the following claim he gave... He said...If you are spending a Great amount of money on a Car....it is supposed to make you feel 12 years old behind the wheel.Otherwise...go and buy something else.

The M3 is a GREAT ALL DAY CAR.But it does not have that exotic factor that can make you feel like that.NOW A REAR MOUNTED TURBO M3 E9X on the other hand....is something else.....

PS.

From my research..(and i am not a technician) the reason why the STS systems are not that lagy is not because of the Air temp alone....but also because of the piping diameter wich is much smaller than tradiotional turbo kits.In that way the kit can sustain the pressure with not much loses because of its length.....just my opinion....

Also, about the turbo sizing, if you have smaller turbos, that equates to less spool time. I believe that'd reduce turbo lag, and the cold air is a plus! If they do get this to work, that STS turbo M3 would be the best sounding M around:-)

I heard these system were pretty good especially since the exhaust pressure going into the turbo is cooler. I however wonder about increased lag due to the increased tube lengths. I guess there is a trade off between cooler air going into the intake but more lag.
