Sorry guys, I didn't realise I hadn't put my age down. I'm 40 plus interest.

No seriously I'm 43 and it looks like I was indeed correct, the majority of US and Canada owners are a lot younger than us here in Europe and that has to be down to the difference in cost we pay.

Young guys, enjoy your time with your M3s now. With the credit crunch kicking in your cars will be reclaimed soon enough. (j/k)

Only joking, no like most of the older guys here I too bought it with cash.

Possible, but not necessarily:

1. You need to consider the disposable income, and then consider purchasing power. A direct currency conversion is not particularly accurate. Also, you pay in Pounds but also get paid in Pounds for instance.
2. I suspect that Americans would be more willing to go into debt than Europeans although I've got no data to back that up.

You may be right, over here in the UK most people will only have a third of the car's cost in finance and even then most who purchase this price of a car will probably have an income of close on double the price of the car itself.

I doubt this will be true for the US market, most will be close to 100% financed, and most will only pay the payments for a 3~4 year term, handing the car back at the end. It's never been my way of paying for something, I'm a believer of if you can't afford to pay for it with cash then you shouldn't have it.

Although you can learn something from a quick and dirty poll like this I firmly believe there is more than one 20 something who posted a reply here who does not own a 2008/9 M3.

As well don't forget about the strong US bias simply based on the number of members of the forum who are from the US.

Oh, BTW, I'm 39, this is my 3rd M3 and it is 100% financed.

18...leasing it myself with my own business and only after I attended racing programs/schools. However, you older guys are right .."how can you afford it and afford a home and what not". My parents are still supporting me in that way, but i still think supporting a lease for a 67K car is still something i can be proud of

Who is paying the insurance? Is it leased under YOUR name? The thing is, would you have your car without your parents assistance? The answer is no.

What business does someone have at 18 without a college education anyway? That must be one hell of a lemonade stand. I am kidding btw.

hah lol
My dad takes care of PHYSICALLY paying the bills for it... I transferr the 1200 a month it takes to lease into his bank account
My business is a complicated thing to explain. I work with Clubs/Lounges in NYC to provide parties such as Sweet 16s Graduations, Bdays, AfterProm...Ive been doing it for 2 years and i can earn a cool 50K a year. Its pretty much like a party planner except I deal with party people who have deep pockets

edit: btw I am getting a college education haha

I will be in that same situation in Spring as well.

In wealthy areas like the Bay Area and stuff, driving a BMW at this age is considered the minimum. Many of my friends have M6s, Ferraris and Aston Martins. It's hard to stunt here.

Others around the country think that a BMW at a young age is a crime, but that's cuz their car payments are more than their own mortgages.
