What does CP vs ZCP Mean?
I received an electronic confirmation today that my M3 was completed and will be arriving in 3 weeks. One thing I noticed was the model number states:
1137 M3 CP I know CP means "Competition Package" but what does the "Z" mean and why would it not be listed as part of my model number? Thanks in advance. SS

Competition Package does not mean the vehicle has its own model. It's the same model. You don't see "M3 IPOD" for model names either. It's just an M3 Coupe. One of your options is ZCP, same as Premium Package 2 is ZP2.

In Europe ZCP is just called Competition Package no Z and full name rather than initials. It is an option rather than a separate model as in the case of the E46 M3 was here.
In the case of the E46 M3 it became a new derivation of the M3 called M3 CS towards the end of the models life and came with CSL style wheels, steering rack and brakes but std E46 M3 power and no carbon roof and no other ightweight parts. |

Interesting...
So mine must be a SCP as I have an e90 M3?
BMW USA seems to do alot of this seemingly meaningless package naming business.

Though it is fun to send a rookie out to the lot occasionally to make sure the M3 came in with the launch control button. Regards, David

Simply put, "CP" means Coupe and "ZCP" is the code referring to the Competition Package.
