Aww! That's messed up! Maybe the color section mentioned the sticker color on the back of his bumper. Kidding!

whem i was in UK, even the gaps between the letters could land u in trouble. some people adjust the spacing between the letters or nos to make it look different eg ARN 1E- adjusted to look like ARNIE or M13 MWA to look like
M BMW A and ALP 11A to look lke ALPINA.

I left the front plate off my car when I got it; appaently the suburbs virtually never enforce the Illinois law. Was in Chicago and saw a meter maid walk around to the back of a car with no front plate. She didn't ticket it. I checked and it was an out of state car. I immediately had my front plate put on. The other exception here would be the Illinois temporary (applied for) plate--they only give you one, for the back.

If your state doesn't require a front plate and you drive into a state that does I don't think you would be breaking the law. Plus, it's an extra hassle, I'm sure, for them to go after an out of stater for such a silly offense.

very interesting indeed, nikki. but red light cameras usually shoot pics from behind, so one still cannot escape.

I think it's more for when a car is seen going the opposite direction from a cop and he/she doesn't have time to turn around and catch it.

any reason for allowing front plateless cars in these states? i have never ever seen a legalised front plateless car in my life and during my travels.

I brought this up a while ago on another thread. Since you can personalize your plates in all kinds of ways, I think there should be a Euro-style personalized plate option available for a fee. It can contain all the necessary stickers and information that standard plates do.

Not only would the state make lots of money selling them, but probably more people would comply with the law and leave the front plate on. License plates in the USA are shaped ugly, whereas Euro plates seem far less offensive to the lines of the car, IMHO.

Keep in mind that traffic violations are issued to the driver, not the car. The picture from the front captures the driver in the car along with the front plates. If the rear image of the car does not have a licence number that matches the front, they have insufficient evidence.

Even the rear plates are absolutely dreadful on Ford Focus and Volvo S40's. It seems that those cars have euro-designed rear trunklids so our American/Canadian plates hang a few inches off the bottom of the license plate section.

From what I observed, the red light cameras are simply used to stop people from driving through red lights and to make money. I do not think the states care who is driving. Not many contest it since you have to pay it within a certain period of time (days) and there are no points.

sucks man. but yea, doesn't matter if you still have time on the meter. my ex-gf lives in sf, so my last car had a front plate and my e90 still has a front plate. palo alto meter maids will do the same. i work in palo alto, so i've been hesitant to take off my front plate.

My friend once borrowed my car and was caught on camera. About two weeks following I received a ticket in the mail with images of my car along with a close-up of the driver. I simply submitted a copy of my drivers licence, proving that my picture does not resemble the driver of the car, and my ticket was waived.

Yea I was wondering about that too.

LOL I just ordered my personalized plates to match to ED plate number.

What's funny is there are these cops that always eat lunch at the same place that I go. Everytime, I pull-in to the parking lot, I wonder if they've noticed and will give me a ticket when they're done with lunch.

You shouldn't have a problem. I think the DPT cares more then the SFPD. And I'm sure they won't care while they are on lunch.

I was thinking about doing that too, and then leaving the front ED plate on the car. That's probably asking for a ticket though...

No actually I work in San Rafael and the cops have nothing better to do there. Also I meant after they finished their lunch and went back on duty.
