Interesting.. Tire Reviews place pss above rs3 for traction. Maybe a better all around tire but there are more grippy tires out there

If you mean the Car and Driver review when you say tire reviews, I wouldn't say they are the best at determining what are the best in ultimate grip. They are consumer oriented magazine and their reviews look at tires in a more overall sense. The PSS gives good bang-for-the-buck but it can't match the gripper rubber.

Grassroots Motorsports has better tire reviews if you are looking for tire grip and don't care for the overall tire evaluation. No one in their right mind would go compete in a street tire class autocross on PSS. It is not competitive.

They evaluated the following tires last year:

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Hankook Ventus R-S3 Z222
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11
Kumho Ecsta XS
Toyo Proxes R1R
Yokohama Advan AD08

Time-wise they finished in this order:
Hankooks, Yokohamas, Toyos, Kumhos, Bridgestones, Dunlops

Here is my last autocross on PSS tires. This is the only clean run I was able to get in. My other runs I was getting a lot of wheel spin and drifting as I apply throttle.

You will notice that most of the time I am coasting on partial throttle. The times I get on the throttle, the rear end wants to kick out. At the final left hand corner exit, the rear end kicks out when I apply throttle and I have to counter steer to correct. This is in completely dry conditions in sunny 60 degree weather.

Replaced today my rears ps2 with PSS, wow I am impressed with the dry traction. Still cold outside at 50F, but I needed to do my best to break traction. So easy now to put the power down at take-off.

Nice to see some locals running e9x's in autox, didnt see any when i was still doing it. Is it possible that the pss's are not getting up to temp quickly enough? I cant imagine pss's are up to caliber as ad08's, zll's, or re11's when it comes to autox. I will track with my pss's as i need an excuse to buy a new set for my other wheels

I don't know why they act like that at autocross. Maybe they do need some heat to work.. but most street tires have the most grip when cold. These aren't R compound tires!

As for E9x M3s at autocross... I was the only one there that day. The past year when I was autocrossing the car, there is usually only 1 other E9x M3 there. I run in STU and the M3 is hardly competitive there. The class is dominated with E36 M3s, STI and Evos. I've been autocrossing Evos for the past 6 years and various other cars for 14 years so it is humbling to jump into the M3 and be a lot slower. It's just too big a car and you can not put the power down easily.

Hmm, i dont know then. They are good on the track from what i read though. Probably cheaper to buy some rs3's or dunlop zll's which hopefully are good on heavy cars like the star specs they replaced.

I purchased Mich PSS and they are getting fitted now at ACM. Hoping they are exactly all the hype. Will post my opinion once summer arrives and I rip it up a bit.

Got mine from Tire rack with the extened warranty and a rebate that they were running on miches. perfect timing.

I ordered from discountedwheelwarehouse.com. It was the cheapest I could find online. I got them for 1275 shipped to East Coast.

More feedback on my new rear PSS tires....

Today chilly outside at 40 degrees and damp conditions due to a light rain, the PSS hook like crazy, I cannot believe the amount of traction I get.

Grip, grip and grip, that's all I can say....it seems that all the hype is true.

Now because of my front PS2 tires and damp conditions I get some degree of under steer, but nothing to worry about. On the dry is ok though.

Picked up my car from ACM yesterday and the tires are retarded (in a good way)!!! Same weather conditions here in Jerz. I cant imagine when they are warm on a good day. Will be posting pics and more feedback.

And I was ready to sell my car looking for some sort of awd because not being able to put the power down on dry conditions.....now who needs awd?

The best mod you can buy for this car is a set of PSS for the rears.... I get no wheel spin on 1st gear, unbelievable.... With the PS2 the 1st and 2nd gears were useless.

I have 255/35/19 in the front and it rubs on full lock. But I love how meaty it looks and the grib it provides when the tires warms up.

Why are you pinching the corners? Lots of room left to track out in most of the corners, particularly at the beginning of the course.

I have 255/35 & 275/35 on stock ZCP wheels w/ 12mm spacers front & rear. No rub at all. My friend has the same tires on the regular stock 220 19" wheel without spacers and there's no rub

I have tracked the PS2's, PSS's and the RS3's in both wet and dry conditions on the same track. In the dry the PSS's are just as quick as the RS3's (square setup), however in the wet the PSS's are much faster. Especially when new and shoulders are not yet rounded from track use. The PS2's however, are not as quick as either the PSS or the RS3's. I think when evaluating the grip of various tires, there are too many variables to take into account such as tire temp, pressure etc. Some tires perform better with lower pressures and others don't. I found that the PS2's required higher pressures due to a softer sidewall, than both the PSS's and RS3's. I was running 38-40 psi hot for the PS2's and only 35-37 hot for the PSS's and RS3's. I have also done AutoX on both the PS2's and PSS, but with different setups so a comparison would not be fair.

I am using the whole course, I let the car flow out after the corner to the edges to smooth it out. There are about 5 times in the video where the tires are snapping out on me so if you see the car jerk suddenly to the left or right, it can be because of that. Some parts you see be driving down the center because I don't want the rear end to snap out and take out a bunch of cones.

I ran the PSS this weekend at another autocross and it feels a lot better now! I don't know what caused this but the tires have a lot more grip than before on the exact same surface. It is definitely warmer weather with temps in the 70s on track. Also the tires have a good 3000 miles on them. Maybe they just need to be broken in? I'll post up video later.
