Do not use any wires up by the sunroof. Most of the 12v lines there are bus lines which will Power the V1, but cause errors with the sunroof. Believe me, back in the day (4 years ago), I tested (almost) every wire there, and all of the ones with sufficient power set off the Anti-Trap error warnings and stopped the sunroof from working properly. Then you have to reinitialize it and such, not to mention as the sunroof is operated the V1 will have intermittent power and will cycle on and off. Tap it from the fusebox cigarette lighter, and run it up the passenger A pillar.

I did the mirror integration and tap the power from the light dome which was pretty simple and fast.
Let me know if you're going this route and I can give you the smaller T tap connector (I have a lot) since the one that comes with the V1 is too big for the small wires up there. |

There is no need to run remote power, unless installing on a convertible model.

But, I still firmly think that tapping at the fuse box using a fuse tap is a MUCH better move for two reasons. #1 to get that light assembly out you have to have little princess hands which fit between the headliner to pop the clips. #2 if there is ever an issue with your sunroof, etc, the dealer won't blame the wiring additions/modifications going to the sunroof module. They really don't like if you tap into existing wires. And it's a pain to remove it before warranty service. Adding a fuse tap will give you a seperate fuse for the V1 in the glovebox (even though I think the V1 has an inline one already). If you tap KL15, it will be running off another circuit instead of its own for power. On the other hand, tapping the fuse box is 100% reverseable, makes no markings or incisions on the factory wiring, and it's off of the cigarette lighter fuse so what can they say? And a fuse tap is 5 bucks and there is a screw you can ground to right there by the fuse panel. It's removed in a couple minutes, and serves to be a permanent solution as well. I've seen dealers deny coverage based on the most unfounded conclusions, so minimizing risk is always the right way to go.

Hey guys I live in LA too, planning on getting V1 mirror integrated as well. So any recommendations on a shop within 90 miles of 90210 that will perform good work at fair price?

The V1 is a fantastic radar detector. I started with a Passport 9500i and wasn't happy with the detection or the ramp-up so I switched to the V1. The arrows really are helful. However, my father [who has much more coin than me] sprung for the 9500ci in his M5 and he loves it. He also has a V1 in his commuter car and loves it, but wanted the laser protection from the 9500ci. I tried it out while I was back in FL for the summer and it saved me multiple times with the laser jammers, and I wasn't a big believer in them before they actually saved me.
The ultimate system is a 9500ci AND a V1. Many in the radar detector enthusiast community [check out radardetector.net/forums for great advice and installers] run both and are very happy. If you have the means, this is the way I would go. Most of my driving is done in traffic so I don't have any countermeasures anymore. But once I move back to FL and get my E92, I will be doing the 9500ci/V1 combo as soon as I save up enough for it. Stay away from K40, a friend with the Calibre system hated it and ended up turning it off and just using a 9500i on the windshield. My dad had one in the M5 before the 9500ci came out and it broke within two years.

It's very simple for those going installing the integrated mirrors.
If doing the mirror route, make sure any wiring is properly routed through the routing clips, not in front of the airbags behind the "a" pillar.

Did my V1 last night using the add-a-fuse method and it works flawlessly. No tapping of wires. The radar display in the mirror is very nice!
