Ebay Motors -- Build Your Own M3

I have never seen this before. On Ebay Motors, there is an option under a search for M3's to build your own using Ebay -

Gave me three dealers in D.C. area with the best being one that offered $1700 below invoice for a 2010 M3.

Here is what I configured --

Your Vehicle (as configured)

2010 BMW M3 4dr Sedan

The eBay Price is $1,700 below invoice, including selected incentives, even if you change your options at the dealer.

Includes:
· Manufacturer-to-Dealer Incentive exp 01/04/10
Price as of 11/07/09
Make sure that your dealer includes all applicable incentives when calculating your price.

HOW YOUR PRICE WORKS
Your price relative to invoice is guaranteed on cars in stock for this model and trim.
If you choose additional options, your price relative to invoice WILL NOT CHANGE. Additional options increase the invoice price, so your selling price may increase.
Your Certified Dealer will show you the invoice for the car you choose. This lets you confirm that your price relative to invoice is correct.
Your price INCLUDES: Destination and all other manufacturer fees plus applicable incentives.
Your price DOES NOT INCLUDE: Dealer documentation (processing), tax, DMV, registration, title, license, other government fees, or dealer installed accessories.
Navigation/Limited Availability packages and Diesel/Hybrid engines may be priced differently.

YOUR REQUESTED VEHICLE

MSRP $71,855 You save
$6,945

Has anyone tried this? Price is the best I have seen.

Please explain how you get to this or post a link. I could find nothing on the Ebay website or google about this.

Strange. I went back to Ebay and the option was no longer there. I wonder if it is a test option. I did a little research and found the partner Ebay is working with - Zag.com, which appears to have been started by a former Ebay exec. I played around with the Zag.com site. Go to the option "Buy a Car" and I built a car using the CapitolOne Link. I got the same $1700 below invoice option.

I also just tried it with the American Express option and also got the $1700 below invoice option from the same dealer I got when I used ebay last night and CapitolOne and Amex today (there is another dealer that has a $1500 below invoice option and another that said to contact the dealer for pricing.

That should be 1700 on Amex. My guess is that the prices vary by locale. My pricing is for DC area.

The GGT and Destination are being factored in to the prices they show. This business model has been tried before and it's never worked so far - take advantage now; I doubt they'll be around in 18-24 months (I hope they are, but I just don't see it).

They also may be including the new $1500 BMWFS incentive. The problem is that you have to finance through BMWFS to receive it, and its interest rates for the 2010 M3 are in the 6% range.

If you're financing for 36-60 months, you're better off using one of the credit unions and foregoing the incentive.

The pricing looks good, but financing is no better.

Well, I knew this may be too good to be true. Dealer has told me that Zag made a mistake in pricing, which has now been corrected (Dealer is offering $800 over invoice plus another $329 processing fee). Oh well. Back to David Aviles. Interested to hear from others if they have gotten below invoice pricing based on ZAG quotes.

This is what the dealer said --

The pricing that you received is wrong and is being changed on the American Express website. I do apologize but the numbers that I sent are the correct numbers. An American Express representative can contact you direct if you would like. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you. Once again I am sorry for the confusion.

Haven't called AMEX yet.

Did dealer's quoted price get updated on Zag.com?

Did you see the price updated to the higher amount on the Zag.com/AmEx site or is it the same as what your Guaranteed Price said? I know it's been a month since your last post, and the car may have been sold by now... but thought I'd ask anyway.

Two different dealers are offering $200 under invoice on 2010. Haven't taken it yet since I am still deciding between this and a C63.
