Airbag Recall

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone in the Charlotte area has had their airbag replaced under the recall yet. This wasn't really a concern of mine until last week when my M became my daily driver since I no longer have a company car anymore.

Thanks.

I have not received anything other than the initial notice regarding the recall. Not sure when parts will be available.

When I was at crown BMW (greensboro) they said they still don't even know when the parts will start coming. Service advisor said it won't be before 4th quarter, and that they will contact us when they can schedule.

Bump.
Hey guys, do you have any updates?

I'm looking to buy my first M3 and most of the cars on the market have these open recall, so I'm wondering you guys solved that and how long was that? Don't want to buy a car and put in a garage for several months until dealer finds the parts...

Thanks in advance!

I finally got my airbag replaced last week (2011 M3 - Florida). It took 8 months to get the part in although I was given a "loaner" for the duration.

Key word was loaner! BMW paying for a loaner car = move to the front of the line for new airbag.

This current air bag recall is the temporary fix. Installs a new Takata unit. Sometime in late 2017 or 2018 there will be a second recall to install yet another air bag- this one completely redesigned and tested by BMW. I believe this will apply to hundreds of thousands of other BMWs also.

Mine gets replaced this Saturday. It is VIN dependent, so they will order per VIN. Make sure that you get with your SA to let him know that they have to order one for you.

I was told the opposite by BMW NA and the dealer, namely that the airbag that was installed was the "final fix." It seems inconsistent information is being provided to owners by BMW, leaving us all with doubt.

Indeed! I spoke w/ BMWUSA a few weeks ago and was told that most cars being fixed were a temporary fix. They said I could go ahead and get it done and then get the final fix later in 2017, both on their dime. I'm just waiting...

This whole "final fix" thing might explain why my 09 is still waiting for an airbag. Maybe they stopped putting in the "temporary" airbags to save money? My car has lived it's entire life in FL and SC.

I had to argue for over an hour to get BMW NA to ship an airbag to my local dealer. I was told that it should arrive in 2 weeks and to drop my car off. Nobody has said anything about a loaner vehicle like others have posted in the past. BMW NA told me that because my car was not an FL,CA,TX car that my car is probably perfectly fine. I told them I do not care what she thought and that I was the one paying and driving the car. We will see what happens.
