Winter driving - rocker panels get chipped by salt and gravel?

I did a quick search and didn't find an answer to my question, so I was hoping to hear what some of you do.

My problem is the rocker panels...they get eaten appart from all the salt/gravel on the roads. Do you let them get chipped really bad, put on a clear bra, use splash guards or something else?

I put a vinyl overlay on the high wear areas last year and it worked quite well. Didn't get a chance this year and as a result, I'll likely have to place an order with dr. colorchip.

Good to know, never really experienced that problem. Could be because the roads near me are pretty well groomed by the time I'm out driving.
