Exclamation BMW N20 2.0L 4 Cylinder Turbo Engine Assembly Video

Have a look at some videos showing the assembly and internals/technology of the N20 engine.

The BMW N20 is a turbocharged inline 4 cylinder DOHC engine which replaced the N52 and BMW N53 inline 6 cylinder engines beginning in 2011.

The N20 is an inline 4, but is considered a replacement for the straight-6 N52 and N53 because it powers equivalent models. It features a twin-scroll turbocharger, variable valve timing (VANOS), variable valve lift (valvetronic) and direct injection.

The N20 is currently used in:
  • E89 Z4 sDrive28i
  • E84 X1 xDrive28i
  • F25 X3 xDrive28i
  • F20 125i (also known as the 128i)
  • F30 328i
  • F10 528i

BMW N20 2.0L TwinPower Turbo Engine Assembly.

Amazing!

This is just fun to watch. I am not a fan of a 4 cylinder engine but this is some great technology. I still love my inline 6.

I think this is a great motor which will come into its own over time as vehicle mass drops.

I wonder if there is any chance this engine will make it into the next JCW mini coupe?

This motor in the upcoming Z3 will be a hoot to drive.

I'm highly surprised BMW is not dropping the N20 into the current 1er in North America for the last year or so.

This is all good and great. For the record, I think fuel economy would be a cool thing to have. But.........................I drove home a 328i tonight as a loaner and I'm wholly unimpressed with the build quality.

Yes, of course. But the 528i was allready listed in the first post. I just wanted to point out that we also have the 320i and 520i in addition to the 328i and 528i that was in the OP's list.

Wow! Scary part that I witnessed is when the timing was installed all that plastic for the chain guides! THAT'S going to be a problem. Especially with those BMW 15k OCA's.....lol
