RS4 beats new M3 in Autoexpress Test

Well the first proper test between the two cars is out - not a good result for the m3. Yes it will still be a great car - but it should really have stomped on the RS4 - dear oh dear - Maybe Audi wouldn't lend BMW an RS4 for the last 18 months so they could get it right?

So in the first test, the M3 loses because although it is a "sharper" driver's car, the RS4 is "easier to live with"? And yet others say the M3 is too soft?

RS4 is just wayyyy overhyped, so the "soft" M3 looks like a scalpel next to it.

I dont care about winners what I like to read is that the M3 is the drivers car between these two. Thats all I've been asking for. I hope the trend continues.

Too complex? People can't figure out the buttons next to the shifter?
I feel sorry for them. And no, this isn't a proper test. In fact, it isn't even a test.

Yes I agree it's much better that it comes second in the test??? - and of course the UK biggest motor magazine will know nothing about cars?? - why can no one accept anything but praise for the m3 on these pages?

It rather becomes a waste of time posting information up on this board -

Oh hear we go the new m3 is just brilliant, the best car of all time, infact the best object ever created.

My god you are brainwashed - why is it not a test?

Because they surely did not have the time to make performance tests (for example acceleration times). That's only a first drive comparison (referring M3).

Stop trying to make stuff up.
Explain to me how it is a test?

It is someone posting their opinion. Maybe I will conduct my own "test" and then post it as such.

whats the advantage of being first in a test when it all comes down to personal preferences?
Personally I have never ever cared about winners, its good for braggin rights but other than that I dont care much. Never will and never going to.
Also, I will never pick a car based on how many times the car has won a test, If I want to know which one I prefer I do my own research.

I have said from the beginning, all am asking for is that the M3 is the drivers car and in this review they seem to think so. I'm happy with that but still the new C63 worries me. Very intresting battle ahead.

PS I have nothing against UK reviews, where did I say that?

Well the magazine (Autoexpress) which is the biggest motoring magazine here has 5 pages with the article header "Road test New M3 v RS4"... i would therefore say it is a test. What would you expect - it has all facts, figures etc you could ever want.

Then post up the remaining pages so we may all share in this "test".

I don't know how the rest of the article reads, but this is a most un-persuasive "verdict".

The BMW is undoubtedly the better option on a track or an open road...It's an incredibly accomplished driver's machine.
Sounds good to me.

Quote:
While it doesn't have the M3's edginess in corners and is no match for it on a track, the Audi is just as fast.
Well for pity's sake, make your bloody mind up, man!

..., plus a great interior....
Completely a matter of opinion...

..., and that mighty V8 engine....
And what exactly was under the bonnet of his M3?

This really sounds like this chap had made up his mind before he drove the car and then struggled to find a way to avoid jumping on the "gone soft" bandwagon.

The problem I suspect is that the new M3 is VERY competent at the limit and softy in everyday driving, which is a shame, 'cause very few people do track days and most of our driving is done on normal roads where the new M3 feels boring BECAUSE it is made to tear up Nurburgring.

Well, it was pretty edgy in fast street driving.

Auto Express is very 'middle of the road' and has to satisfy the mass market, unlike Evo which is very focused on 'drivers' cars.

I think the problem with this review is that the RS4 is first, but based on what criteria? If seems it's based on which is the most easy to live with car.

It seems the M3 is too good.

Oh, and the RS4 is now no longer (or very shortly at least) in production. So the test is irrelevent in terms of new cars.

For those of you outside the UK here is the autoexpress article. For those of you in the UK, please buy the magazine - it's a great issue this week.

This initial driving "impression" might be useful to someone who doesn't know much about either car and wants to gather some basic information.

The only thing I learned from it is that the base price of the cars in the UK are only 500 pounds of each other.

I can't help wondering what more there really is to know. The m3 is better on the limit and for track work. For those wanting a track car the M3 is the best. For those wanting and allrounder the RS4 is the best. Either way, which ever car you pick, you end up with a bloody great car - isn't that all that really matters?
