I was out and about this weekend with it. But I live in Danbury nh. I'm probably the only person in a 10mile radius with a BMW.
I drover to Waltham mass sat. and northern nh on Sunday. Even had the top down on Sunday.

Just bought an E90 M3. I also just moved to Somerville. Hopefully I will see you all around. I haven't seen an E9x M3 since I arrived.

It is not in my possession, yet. It is being shipped from CA.

I've been reading recommendations for indy shops. Who should I go to that is closest to Somerville?

German Performance Services
Boston Motor Werks
Bavarian Performance Group
Turner

Turner seems really expensive, but I've heard they are top notch. I'm gonna need a new clutch sometime next year, and I don't want to give up my first born child. $3,100 seems too high.

Turner sucks. They used to be good until the owner sold out and it all went straight downhill. Now they upsell and charge higher than quotes like any other shady mechanic

Honestly I do the work on my own car and if I need special stuff like a lift or hydraulic press there’s a place in Revere that I know and trust. But Turner was the last time I brought it anywhere which was a few years ago so and they tried the usual tactics on a brake flush

Thanks for the heads up. I wish I was knowledgeable enough to work on my own cars.

You can start any time at any level. I used to break about as much stuff as I fixed when doing a job. That was in the dark ages. Today you can find step by strp instructions for most jobs and often a decent utube video (after watching a few and disregarding the hack videos).

It’s more about just having confidence in trying. Pay attention to the steps so if you can’t get it done you can at least put it back together

Do you think changing spark plugs would be a good first try?

Sure. It’s not as easy as in some cars and you may crack the top of a coil, but that won’t hurt the coil. There are some DIY out there. Find them and read them first so you know what you are getting into and whether you have enough of the tools to get the job done.

As stated above it’s a lil tricky due to the lack of space on the back passenger side. You’ll need many combinations of extensions and swivel sockets, a torque wrench and I used leverage with a nylon strap for the coil. It’s gonna be a bit of an investment for a beginner buying tools and stuff also a tip, when reinstalling the coils put the back one in the front and front one in the back, just in case you do damage the back coil at least you can replace it easy in the front

I keep my cracked front coil in front, and yes, it was originally in the rear. It’s just a plastic piece that cracked; it’s been like that for 7 years and I have changed plugs twice since then. I am about to change coils as preventative maintenance.

I wouldn’t. I’d replace them as they died. That’s too much money on parts that aren’t really likely to go bad

I like ACE performance in Tewksbury. Honest guys. I asked them to change my spark plugs and motor mounts. They ended up calling me a few hours after I dropped the car off to let me know that they looked nearly new and wouldn't need to be changed for at least 20k miles.

I over maintain all my cars, but I do the work so it’s just parts. Spending time on this keeps me out of bars where I would spend more money. On most cars, I would agree with you that coils work or don’t work, but on these cars, the knock sensing works through the plugs so the ignition is more critical. I run as much as 37 degrees advance so I want things working perfectly. I also know that coils actually do weaken over time — I have a couple of modified turbo BMWs that taught me that (original coils fine at low boost but misfire at high boost and new coils stopped the high boost misfire).
