Fyi...No cruise w\ DSC off.....

Headin home tonight and tried to engage cruise control..pushed the lever, pulled the lever etc etc ...thought, oh this great, broken...then I started messing around with buttons and found that when I turned the traction control on (it was off as part of the "m" button settings due to the previous run in with an S4, although still not over 5,500 rpms) the cruise control engaged just fine.

Yep, just like on the normal 3 series.

Now, question for you - can you turn on cruise in MDM mode? 335i will not allow it in either the DSC off or DTC modes.

My E46 will happily cruise with DSC off.

Also, if anything is unsafe, its that the cruise stays ON when you take the car outta gear (manual only - not for M-DCT). If you leave it in neutral, it revs to insanity. If you engage a lower gear, it will catapult you forward unexpectedly (til you get used to it). Neither are good, IMHO.

Anyone know about Cruise + MDM? Anyone? I assume no, but still curious.

Can't tell you the answer. Another question: what would be the purpose of cruise control with MDM or DSC Off? I'm curious to what type of situation you would want that in.

Simply to not have to switch the DSC on and off as you switch cruise on and off. Course I am a cruise junky - use it to guarantee my speed stays appropriate when required, regardless of the speed limit.

Don't think I ever turned mine on in 6 1/2 years with my last M.

Are you talking about taking the car out of gear without using the clutch? Depressing the clutch should deactivate the cruise control, if not there's a malfunction with your car.

CC could make your wheels spin in slippery roads.

"Malfunction with your car"? Why are you spouting off advice and info when it's clear you don't ACTUALLY know what you are talking about?

If it's anything like the standard 330d (E90) that I owned then you can change gear without deactivating the cruise control.

You'd think wouldn't ya?

Its crazy but true, and standard on all manual transmission 3 series with at least "midlevel cruise" option, which includes all 3 series in US. Base level cruise equipped cars (the ones without the little cruise needle on the speedo) available elsewhere in the world do not suffer this affliction.

BTW, (and this is for anybody, not specifically directed at you skierman) lots of great tidbits like this are available at e90post in the long "things you didn't know about your car" thread. Course a lot of its in the manual too.

Nah. There's times to beat the crap outta the car, and there's times when you just want your speed to stay constant so you can concentrate on other driving tasks - like watching for cops. I used to set it at a buck-oh-five on my two hour highway commute (which was otherwise a three hour commute). Don't think I could find a driver to do that for me.
