Track day and Brake Pads

Hi guys,

I am in the process of looking for pads for my upcoming track event.
Here is my question I would like to buy some track dedicated pads. Here are some that i am looking at:

Hawk DTC-70
Hawk HP Plus
CarboTech xp10

I won't be doing that many track events, maybe about 5+
I am curious what you guys would recommend? I am a beginnger (have done many before, but this is a v8 and alot more power then my turbo rsx and my stock s2000)

Thanks for the help

I'd start with pads, lines and fluid for the stock brakes. If it were me, I'd get the PFC01 pads.

Horrible, I burned through a complete set of tires yesterday. One day - talk about long lasting

Usually get 2.5 days out of them. I have sticker addiction so I like to buy a new set every track day

Most every E9X M that tracks has the Stoptech kit. You can run a dual purpose pad on both street and track and be fine. This saves a ot of hassle at the track swapping pads etc. They are cheaper, and when you do have to swap pads it is pins, instead of removing the whole caliper. Simple.

Stoptech is worth it, I like them a lot.

If one just stays stock completely, is it that bad..?

I'm not one to get the best lab times, but to have fun.

i have 12mm front 10mm rear left (that's what the dealer told me)
Dealer told me 12mm is new? so my fronts have been used? didn't make sense to me

5500 mi, 3 track days (SOW CW, CCW, Big Willow).

I feel i have enough braking on the track... though towards the end of a mid day session i do feel it not being as good....and on the street now it's nothing like it used to be before i tracked the car (which was before 2k mi)

can one just change the fluid?
I'm a complete noob to tracking but I do enjoy it

Never tried carbotechs. Buddy has recently used them on his boxster s and is gong back to pagid yellows. decent track performance but hard on rotors and life is so-so.

HP+ pad is not track only. You can easily use them on the street and track, but they don't last as long on the track and leave lots of deposits on your rotors.

DTC-70's are probably over kill for your needs. Very good at the track but brutal on rotors especially before they warm up.

If you want Hawks, think about the HT-10's. Step down from the DTCs and great track wear and performance.

I'm partial to pagid yellows at this point but they are expensive. $1,100/set for Brembo GTs. Not sure about price for oem brakes though.

Let me repeat, if you are using the stock calipers get PFC01. Let me repeat, get the PFC01. HT10 did not hold up if you drive fast. DTC 60/70 is great, but will need a good amount of heat to get them up to temp. They will kill the stock rotors as well, literally will crack them in a weekend if you are fast.

A lot of people will tell you different things as brakes come down to a "brand" preference for everyone. From personal experience use the PFC01 or Pagid RS19.

When you upgrade to a BBK if you do, then try different compounds to see what you like best. It all comes down to how you drive, how you like the brakes? Do you care if you eat the rotors etc...?

For the stock components the PFC01 work the best. Pagid RS19 was a close second... Do you want to hear it again?

Look at threads on this from 2+ years ago....

I've been running the pagid rs29 and have been having great results for both track and street duties but not cheap as previously stated. Nothing but good things to say about them.

When I ran with the PFC compared to the Pagid I had much better pedal feel and modulation. That is why I advise going with those. The Pagid were fine, but PFC worked better for me.

You want to run the PFC01 or PFC08...both great choices.

The only "knock" I've read on the PFC01, is they don't have the clips so they can rattle.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

HPS and HP+ are a complete joke. OEM pads in ANY sporty car are lightyears better.

I run the dtc 70s in my evo and they are fantastic and last long even with a heavy high hp car on slicks
