Engine nearly bogs out at light
2011 E92 M3.
Location: SoFL Temp 70F Miles: 14,200 DCT Tranny So I'm at a traffic light and come to a stop. The RPMs going erratically from idle to 17-1800. The DCT shifts itself into neutral and the car starts to lose power nearly bogging out. I immediately shift the car back into Drive mode and hit the accelerator and keep the car from stalling out. WTF???? Only event moments before was a re-fuel from a Chevron station 93 octane fuel. Any ideas? |

Bad fuel? But to be honest I am having similar issues with my '11 sedan. Thought it was bad fuel at first but I have filled up at three different stations and still have the issue on and off. Actually stalled a couple of times and came close a few just as you described. Going in for regular service soon so will have it looked at then...

Thanks. I also should note I drive this car once every 2 weeks so I was thinking the gap between use has contributed to the stall? But nothing new with that, It's been sitting in my garage with little use since new and never had that issue before. I'm going to bring it in and will report back.

You know what's funny? I came back from a vacation trip in Canada for 2.5 weeks (car was sitting in the garage for the whole duration) and the moment I came back and drove the car a little bit it started to bog down. I didn't understand what was going on, for example when I went to take a sharp left turn onto the on-ramp, the car lost complete power as if the traction control interrupted for a good 2 seconds.
Ever since, nothing has happened so we shall wait out. If it is a ICV then it'll be $2000 out of the pocket. The car has been very reliable for the past 43K miles (5 years ownership), so spending that $2k isn't bad.

My car does the exact same thing, *only* after a fill up.
If it's the ICV shouldn't it happen more often? Chatted with my mechanic he mentioned it could be related to the charcoal canister, so after you fill up it dumps more fuel into the engine causing it to run rich for a bit and sputter. (Or something like that) |

Not normal. Any check engine light or increased emissions error? Sounds like an ICV, but could be a number of different things.
fastmike: This is not normal, even after a fillup. On a side note, post 4,000

In my case, no CEL or error messages. Will see if the car is throwing any codes when I bring it in for service...

I never said it was normal.
No check engine lights, and it's fine after 5 mins of driving. Only sputters the first mile or so after a fill up. Seems to be worse the emptier the fuel tank is. Is it possible there's codes that don't trigger an check engine light? |

My car has done this on day 1 ( first gas fill ) and for past 60k miles. Only on fill up. One time to point of engine stsllibg 3 times in a row after I left gas station. Completely fine and may not happen on all cars but if hours does it than IRS normal. I just sit for a minute before driving off after a fill with engine on and let it do its thing

I've got a fund set apart for ICV or throttle valve actuator. Shouldn't have to, but I consider it a "not if, but when it'll fail" item.
