Trunk Emblem Removal

So I want to remove the ///M3 trunk emblem and replace with a matte finished emblem. I was told that I had to blow dry it. How long should I blow dry it for to loosen the adhesive? Will it damage my paint?

Use dental floss and pull it right off. Just did mine.

No need for the blow dryer to get it off. You may need it for any leftover tape that might be left on the car.

Also to get the rest of the glue off 3m adhesive remover is a big help.

I would blow dry it and pry it off with microfiber-towel-covered finger tips. I use a 3M eraser wheel to remove left over adhesive because I don't like using solvents on the paint.

It's essential you use a little heat to soften the adhesive. Otherwise, you can do damage to the clearcoat underneath. Use dental floss instead of prying off to prevent the corners of the badge from marring the paint.

Tip: Mask off edges of the badge with blue masking tape before removing to make reinstalling/lining up the new badge easier.

+1 This.

Honestly once you heat it up it will FEEL as if you can just take it off with your hands, which you can. But use the dental floss because it will be more precise.

(and use Goo Gone to remove any excess glue)

Wave the blowdryer over the badge for about 20 seconds to get soften the adhesive.

Sorry for bringing old thread back up... But any info on removing hood emblem? I managed to take the trunk one off (messed it up a bit, will have to order a new one)... Don't really want to mess up the hood one.

Any tips?

Same steps as listed above. Start with some dental floss. Clean up with 3m adhesive remover.

I thought of that... but it looks like i'll have to chip it a little just to get anything under.

The hood roundel doesn't use adhesive. It's a press fit badge with two studs on the roundel itself and two tight tolerance grommets in the rubber base on the hood. It simply prys off with some gently work.

I managed to wedge a thin notecard under the emblem enough to slide some floss under and pull it off. Others recommend wrapping a screwdriver with tape but I don't want to risk scratching the paint.
