No man, that was just a joke. I believe most instructors will tell you that their pay is the lightbulb that goes off in your head.

Nobody mentioned 36mm socket if you need to change the oil filter. Just changed mine and it dawned on me it was not listed. Also, if you are trailering, whatever size standard socket you need for those lug nuts. Had a nail in a trailer tire this weekend and didn't have that.

I think a 36mm socket is unnecessary for the track. Unless you plan on changing the oil there.
But if you DO get a 36mm socket...I think most rear axle nuts are 12pt 36mm...might want to get one that will remove the spindle nut whenever you need to do rear axle/wheel bearing work.

Yeah, your E46 M3 uses a 13mm socket for the oil filter housing.

I like to show up with my helmet, hans and driving shoes. The rest just magically shows up.........on a long distance trip I may even have to drive the truck and trailer.........

E9x packing list. Oil filter housing cap requires 36mm socket.

36mm, huh? What's a serious socket. I don't even have a 3/4" drive ratchet. (Note to self, drive to Sears, but it )
I ended up packing pretty light. Pressure gauge, torque wrench, a few sockets, and fluids (both for me and the car). I also had various odds and ends (zip ties, RTV, etc). I didn't end up needing anything and if I'd come up short there were tons of awesome friends around happy to lend a hand. My next track "weekend" (it's actually a Monday and Tuesday) are in less than a month. Time to start getting excited. |

I'd leave the 36mm socket at home unless you have a large tool box loaded onto a truck or trailer.

one last thing
If this is OP first event I would say to bring a pick me up of some sort..your first event will leave you drained after lunch...you will need something to help you regain your focus after eating...chocolate...energy drink... etc..prep your car well..and have fun...when on track remember to look ahead don't focus on braking cones or apex cones if your event uses them.

Honestly, I would eat something light. Maybe eat a salad in a nice quiet corner of the paddock so no one laughs at you.

Seriously. Eat light and eat often (handful of nuts, etc) Drink a lot of water. Avoid caffeine. You crash harder from all the track adrenaline. |

I'm generally very aware of mindful of what I eat and the track day was no different. I avoid processed foods, refined carbs, etc. So I ate nuts and fruit. However, I did partake of the free burgers that the student resource center provided to first-timers.
