It looks like rental comanies do keep track of what you are doing and how fast you are going. There have been a few court cases where rental companies have charged excessive fees for speeding and going out of state.

All you need to keep track of monitorable info (speed, rpm, time of day, etc) is a relatively inexpensive (and small) portable device used by insurance companies like Progressive to (supposedly ) lower rates. They also have GPS so they know if they're disconnected. It connects to the OBDII port under the dash. So yes, I believe any high-end rental car is going to have one of those suckers .

OP, what is your 'other' car that has about the same power and DCT??

Sorry if I implied it had DCT (though I don't think I did?) - it doesn't. Just a regular 6 speed auto.

It's a Vauxhall VXR8, with a few minor mods (tune, exhaust etc..). So as I said, similar power levels, but not quite the same finesse as an M3.

If you jack it up and run it in reverse for a couple of hours it could reset the computer. Just don't kick the front end repeatedly. :-)
