Question Dog proofing E90

I was wondering what, if anything, any of you who travel with your K9 friends had attempted to set-up for K9 transportation?

I'm thinking of having my best friend (below!) ride on the rear seat, perhaps in a dog hammock or large sized pet tube (see links below). Any of you guys used similar in the E90?

Most of the time he'll be travelling in the truck but he may end up in the 330 on the odd short trip.

Thanks E90Fleet. That looks like a good quality rear seat cover. Quilted and it also covers the lower portion of the door.

The only advantage of the pet tube is that it stops the dog getting thrown in an accident. Though the seat cover in combination with the harness depicted would also accomplish that.

Those pet tubes look great. My cat hates her cage, and those tubes look more friendly, plus they can look out at you, her cage is a bit restrictive with vision.

BTW - great looking dog thunderbirds

A little off topic here.
Isn't your dog the same dog breed in the BMW commercial. I think it is the 530xi sports wagon commercial. The guy gets his car keys and the dog hides. He than puts a helmet on his dog and the dog gets in the cargo area. The car takes off and the dog bumps into the back window.
Great commercial.

No, Zeppelin is about black dogs, and Floyd about floating pigs.

Whatever it is, the dog does not look too impressed, so it can't be Ledzepplin or Pink Floyd. It has to be something like Bucks Fizz or Rick Astley

The BMW car seat cover for dogs is, according to my dealer, not very convenient. It does cover everything in the car, but it is not easily removable, like the tube or the hammock in your links. It has to be fitted to the doors and takes a while to do. It's designed to be left in place for extended travel and not for quick commutes (e.g. taking your dog to the vet, dog park, groomer).

I had considered this for my Lab and had asked why it costs so much (over $300). That was the answer I got.

I currently have a hammock style carrier for my Lab. This is a nice way to carry her, but I am afraid for her if I were to get into an accident. That pet tube looks nice and it looks like it can be harnessed down to restrain the animal during a crash. I think I'd go with that.

Thanks for the info JBM. It never occurred to me that the BMW dog cover would be difficult to take in and out. This would be an issue for me as the Man in the Moon will only be riding in the E90 occasionally.

And yes, you are correct that the pet tube can be harnessed. I believe the loops will tie into the car and provide some stability in the event of a crash. The only issue I see is that depending on the size of the dog they may not be able to move around as much as they otherwise might. But this is not all downside as Noah loves to get into the front seat whenever possible. I often catch bystanders laughing out loud if I leave the car to grab a coffee on the ferry as when I return he is always sitting bolt upright in the drivers seat. I swear if I left the keys in the car he would take off, winking at the girls as he went!

As to what he is listening to in the photo, I'm going to leave that as an exercise for the reader. Hmm, maybe I will set up a quiz in the next couple of days - prize TBA !

And believe it or not, I haven't seen the BMW ad with the Weimaraner.

OK, time to go and find out whether anyone is willing to ship a large sized pet tube to Canada!

I couldn't find the commercial on the US site. But I did find the commercial on BMW's Australia site.

http://www.bmw.com.au/indexframe.asp

1. Select the 5 series.
2. Select the touring.
3. Select tv commercial.

The commercial is called "Helmet".

RyBMW - I just watched the commercial - classic !!

It's funny but you Aussies always seem to get more interesting commercials than we do in North America. Brits are similarly lucky!

I'm from NYC and I saw this commercial here in NYC. This one site wanted me to pay in order to view the commercial. I found it for free on BMW's Australia site.

Ledzep, that net doesn't look like it will protect you from a side attack of slobery tongue in the ear though!

I think the tube looks good as well.

My parents use one in their one E46 for the dogs, and it works great

Takes me about 20 seconds to "install" or remove it
