These are the prices I got quoted for maintenance by the dealer. Spark plugs!!! Really? Does anyone know what a fair price is? So I can find a shop in Houston to do this.
Thanks

Engine oil & filter $251.39
Air Intake Filter $83.97
Spark Plugs $650.39
Cabin Microfilter $321.61

The only thing on that list that is right is the oil change, and that is overpriced too but, so it will be on record on there computers its probably worth it.

BUT! Air filter DIY 10 Minutes
Spark plugs DIY 1 Hour
Cabin Filter DIY 5 Minutes

You can buy an aftermarket air filter for nearly what they are going to charge and it takes 10 minutes to do yourself.

I bought these cabin filters from BMS for $60 - http://www.burgertuning.com/cowl_fil...w_135_335.html

You could try Bavarian Machine off of Waugh; they know what they are doing and I have never had a bad experience there...

Definitely do the cabin and air filter yourself. It's easy enough even for people that's never changed a tire.

if it's that easy and knowing the part is roughly $110, as opposed to the reported $321 for dealer install ....doing it yourself is a no brainer.

Spark plugs are 100 for plugs and at least 2-3 hours for first timer. Once doing it once its very easy but

I don't think spark plugs take an hour on the M3. You need to remove the air box assembly and then you need the spark plug puller tool to get the coil packs out. One side of the engine looks like a pain in the butt to do with the limited amount of space.

Do all the above yourself, it's really easy and you'll save a lot of money.

As for the Spark Plugs...it's not easy on our cars, but doable. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then I would pay to have that done. Maybe find another reputable shop to do it though because that does seem a little steep.

That's ridiculous.

Just buy the oil and filter yourself and pay someone to just do the oil change itself, maybe $25 for labor.

Cabin filter is $40 for the good one and it takes 10 secs to install.

Buy the AEN or K&N rechargeable air filter with cleaner and it's $50, takes 15 minutes.

Spark plugs are cheap, buy them yourself and just pay someone labor to change them out if you're not a DIY'er. Still it's really, really easy.

They don't call them stealerships for nothing. These cars can be expensive to maintain, do yourself a favor and learn to DIY, you'll save yourself a ton of money and learn something in the process.

I just called to check the cost of an oil change and spark plugs at my local dealerhsip. First the guy told me not to do it because the car doesn't say to and he didn't care that I wanted to do it anyways. Then came the prices.

Oil change $275
Spark plugs $850

Hmm, yeah I don't think so. DIY wins over being lazy thats for sure.

1 hour for spark plugs on an S65 is very optimistic, especially if this is the first try.

If OP is not comfortable doing it, that is one I'd take to an indy shop.

13 hours to replace DCT pan bad? Because that's what we have, and that's literally the only dealership within an hour
