Issues with the M3
Hi guys,
Hope that somebody will be able to help me answer some of my questions: Got an M3 recently and notice some unusual things: First issue: When the car first achieve 15km/h in the morning, there is usually some "rubbing" noise coming from the rear of the car. Any ideas what this could be? Once the car gets past that stage, I don't hear the "rubbing" noise anymore. If the car is parked for more than 2 hrs, I usually hear the rubbing noise again (usually at around 15km/h). Not sure if this matters, but outside environmental temperature is around 0-10 degrees Celsius (32-50 Fahrenheit). Second issue: This is somewhat hard to describe, but I will try. Sometimes, when I press down on the gas pedal, there appears to be some slight "feedback" in the gas pedal. The only comparison that I can think of is when you slam on the brakes and you get that ABS feedback. The difference is that this "feedback" is on the gas pedal, and the "feedback" is very very very very light (nothing like the ABS feedback. Thanks and appreciate any replies on these issues. |

1) It could very well be the temperature. I personally do not drive my M3 during the winter, but my RSX makes all kinds of noises every morning. Perhaps someone else who actually drives it during the winter can chime in...
2) If you have a DCT... it seems normal; it happens to me depending on my settings. On D3 it happens all the time, on S3 hardly ever. What are your settings? Now, if you have a manual... sorry, can't help you there, as I just don't know. |

Are you sure the "rubbing noise" is not the ABS self-test? I know you said it's coming from the rear, but is it possible it's coming from the firewall area? The ABS is going to run like that when you first start the car and move it.

Your parking brake could be sticking.....
Also, it seems the diff will make a noise or 2 until it warms up. Always a good idea to bring to dealer. You never know..... |

Is the rubbing sound being made when making sharp turns? This believe it or not is normal, however, BMW offers a friction modifier that will be put in your diffy at your first service.
Regarding the second issue, I feel isn't a issue at all. It could be just some slack in the caliper. Dave

Issue one has to be the diff, all of our cars do this. Also looks like you've already been hooked up with a link to it.
