Bad, bad, bad...

OK, so I ran across a 2013 Boss 302 on my way to work this morning (gotta-have-it-green, no less). I was top down and being good until he got right next to me and downshifted hard. M-button hit, 3 blips of the DCT and it was on. Before everyone flames me, we were on open highway so I didn't endanger anyone's life by my own. Being a former Mustang guy, I just couldn't resist. I was suprised that it was a dead even run to about 140, which is when we did run up on traffic. I thought the Boss would pull me, but he didn't. Thumbs up were exchanged and now I'm at work trying to concentrate and not think about getting out on a track as soon as possible...

Nice run, I thought he'd take you for sure given he got the jump on you as well.

He down shifted but paused long enough for me to hit the M and drop 3 gears. If he got a jump, it wasn't much of one. I gotta tell ya, with me between 7500 and 8300 and him between 6500 and 7500, it was beautiful music. That car sounds awesome at high RPM's, and you know what ours sounds like up there!

No lecture from me, but anytime I'm more than 10MPH or so above the limit i get nervous about a ticket. In this case, I would be nervous about being arrested!

My boss (work boss) has the same car! He is a Ford diehard as he has 2 13' Boss 302s, 69' Boss 302, GT 500, AND a FORD GT!! So he has me beat anyday of the week. Thanks for the story I was curious how our cars would stand up to a 302.

I had a Mustang GT 5.0 try to race me on the highway this morning driving into work (I was in my AM Vantage). I'm not one to street race so I just let it go - think he thought I was scared or something...

Wasn't really a, "show others what my M can do" as much as an opportunity to show myself how it stacks-up. One of the contenders for my $$ was that exact car (13 Boss 302 in GHIG). Obviously I went with the M, but always wondered if I made the right choice (remember, die-hard Mustang guy here). Funny, I need a magazine for the M...still have a subscription to 5.0!

I bought this car to enjoy the performance of it (I like to drive...period). Now, before the lectures start, I do not make a habit of pushing it on the street for reasons mentioned above (plus, wouldn't want to live with the guilt of killing someone). I just had a weak moment this morning that was combined with an open stretch of road! I'm really anxious to get the car on the track where I don't have the anxiety of getting arrested and can truly push the car in all aspects. Great car...loving my choice at this point...

Just think... You could have pulled on him of you had a carbon roof instead of a heavy vert. (Just kidding, but not really)

And in manual mode, you just have to have the pedal floored and hold down the - paddle and it will go to the lowest possible gear before redline.

Not to thread jack, but I must say i'm totally unimpressed with Roundel. Everyone seems to rave about it, so I couldn't wait to get my first copy. To me, it feels like I'm just reading marketing material from BMW. None of it seems unbiased, which I guess is the point.

Just not for me I guess.

Yep, figured that was coming... Having the top down all summer is worth the weight. Besides, don't I get better weight transfer with the hardtop in the trunk? LOL

looks like three spots between the two of them to hopefully avoid some jealous a hole from hitting your car with his door

Well, if not he'd be the first guy I've ever met that provokes a race then only stays next to someone he could get around. Trust me, he had his foot through the firewall. Now, he might have been in the wrong gear to start with, but he wasn't holding the car back...

Its hard to tell in the pictures but there isnt a parking spot to the right of the mustang. So cars who park there always inch over the yellow line to give some extra space. People are asking for trouble when they take up two spots

only worthy car that wanted to challenge me on public roads was a 911 convertible. Actually it was just a spirited drive (not all out). he got a smile to the ears and gave me two thumbs up at the end, no doubt he heard my V8 roar and turbojet.

Well how do you put the roof down with the dead body in your trunk?

Considering the simple fact that the M3 was not designed to drag race (or go ludicrously fast in just a straight line), I would say that your performance was admirable, and you should have no doubt that you made the right choice. Because if you were to take that Mustang to the track, you would absolutely humiliate it. Even though the Mustangs are notorious for it's performance in only a straight line, you managed to keep up, making the M3 the winner of both worlds.

Do you need the "M" button hit before dropping 3 in the DCT? I know nothing of that tranny, but didn't think they were related.
