I'll take the M motor instead of the illuminated M. The 1M owners can have the illuminated M instead of an M motor! Haha!

No way would I want red or orange. Air forces all over the world were getting rid of red illumination 50 years ago. Our visual accuity in red light is much worse than in white light. The intruments are easier to read without the red/orange.

My 2011 E92 doesn't have them and I was really glad to see that.

I like both. But I wouldn't change. I would like to have the ///M illuminated, as well as the area where the dial is connected to the gauge...that is a pretty cool touch. The 1M guages look cool at night, but nasty in the day.

I miss the orange myself (from 335i) but wouldn't mod the M for that.

I like the white, gives a modern look.

I don't know why the M logo is not illuminated. IIRC, it was illuminated in the Z4 M.

Haha. You're right. People just must be sick of it. To me, it would feel more "at home." Maybe I need to stop trying to turn this car into an E46 M3!!

Btw, I think it could look way better than the pic I posted if done right.

Would you go back to a green only CRT monitor for your computer, or go back to an Atari for gaming? No way. Maybe for a novelty on a limited basis, but not for everyday.

I prefer the orange. I find it softer for the eyes at night. The M3 white cluster is not bad but if I could select what I prefer, I would go for orange.

Since BMW will now using more and more the black instrument cluster made of pixels like the F10 5 series, why don't BMW just put the option for people to select between orange or white at night....

I'll admit to some nostalgia for the orange gauges from previous BMWs that I have owned. And also the lower seating position that made me feel like I was more in vs. on the car. But overall, I dig my E92 M3 and the majority of the changes are for the better. Wouldn't bother with changing the gauge lighting just to indulge in that nostalgic feeling.

This is my first BMW and I would have preferred the orange. It's fresh to me and stealthy. I find nothing exciting about the new color and one of the first things I searched for mod-wise was a way to change the gauges. I even went through the manual searching for a similar option like like the Mustang where you can change the color. You are not alone.

In addition, I would have loved the pop open rear quarter windows as in the previous M. They look so cool popped open.

As for dated, I don't think so just as Porsche doesn't loomed dated to me.

Werd. SOMETHING has to be special in that car. An illuminated M logo does just that.

I think Orange would of been the way to go.

Actually a good point. The amber or orange color actually serves a purpose. It's easier on the eyes yet the color is not so that it will relax the eyes at night. Colors like blue and greens in hondas and toys are more relaxing for your eyes but maybe won't keep you so alert. BMW was smart in using the amber

Nope. I like the way it is minus the non-illuminated M. That would have been perfect. It's nice and clean the way it is.

Sorry to bump this relatively old thread. But I'd like the orange back as well. After a few thousand km's I find I'm missing it. Amber is much better at night and does wonders to preserve your night vision on roads without traffic, etc. It isn't as distracting.

Has anyone successfully swapped the LEDs?

Orange? meh

At night, dimmed to bare minimum dash is optimal for my eyes.
