Barrington, IL (which consists of Barrington, South Barrington, North Barrington, Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington, Port Barrington, Tower Lakes, Deer Park, Hoffman Estates, Inverness, and Carpentersville). Specially for me, Deer Park. Home of Melissa Bean, Kristin Cavalari, Gary Fencik, Henry Paulson, and a bunch of other white people.

Baby Face Nelson was shot like 9 times (like 50 Cent) in the 30s here. Probably something to do with Al Capone's lake house on Lake Zurich, which is where I attended HS.

Also, there is a research facility for Gatorade. Typical suburb really. White people, Lexus Hybrids, Bush '04 stickers, iphones, drug problems.

Magdeburg, Germany ... I was baptized in the Magdeburg Cathedral (Magdeburger Dom) that was constructed over a period of 300 years (Construction started in the year of 1209). Magdeburg is rich in art, ranging from antiques to modern art like many German cities. Photo of the Magdeburg Cathedral below.

One of the more resent achievements was the construction of a water bridge as can be seen in the picture below.

Yup, we got it all. Drug problems, emotionally distant parents focused on work, quaint breakfast places, teen suicide "epidemic," a train station that goes to Chicago, horse breeders, people who walk their stupid little dog at night with no lights or reflective clothing, racists in denial, and an unplaceable sense of pretentiousness and condescension

We used to have the highest teen pregnancy rate in Illinois, not bad for a town of 7,500 residents. The cops are easy to bribe also considering there all corrupt. That's all I got.

Not sure.

I know Tecumseh Products was the big factory in town, but they specialized in refrigeration equipment (such as compressors and what not). Back when I lived there, they were talking about expanding to Europe and stuff.

I guess they moved out of town though. That's what I heard anyway, and that would have had a pretty devastating impact on the community, as many were employed there. I don't really ever go back there or talk to anyone else who is there regularly, so I have no idea what exactly happened. I heard we finally got a Taco Bell though. That's a major accomplishment. I wish they would have had that while I was there. It was my favorite post-game meal for sporting events and it sucked to have to drive 15 miles to get to the nearest one.

Kinda reminds me of going to Detroit when I was a kid. My dad grew up there, and he wanted to drive through his old neighborhood. Chicago ghettos have nothing on what his old stomping grounds have turned into...

Eh, well the Detroit ghettos have a MUCH lower thug/sq mile ratio. The ghettos in Chicago are packed with useless human beings. In Detroit, they're fewer and further between. To be honest, there's a lot of crime in Detroit, and violent crime at that, but there are definitely many places in the Chicago area (shit, the entire south side and west side) where I'd rather take my chances in Detroit.

The Detroit ghettos appear much worse though. Hell, even some decent areas of the city (and yes there are some) aren't too easy on the eyes. The abandoned buildings need to go. So does a certain demographic (interesting reading about how young the median age is, causing it to be harder for do-gooders to try to uproot them and restore the city).
