Questions for everyone who recently went through this:
1. About how long did production take (1? 2 weeks?) 2. From end of production, about how long until ready for pickup? Trying to figure things out so I can time the selling of my car... I want to minimize the amount of time I'll be stuck in a rented Aveo... |

At least for the east coast, it takes a minimum of four weeks after end of production to make it to the dealer (my '09 made it in exactly four weeks). Like other people have already stated, it might take longer due to many different factors such as when it finally gets loaded on to a ship, if any damage is done during transport, and how many cars need to be prep'd at the VDC/VPC before it can be released for transport to your dealer. I've been pretty lucky with all of my cars (3 BMWs, 1 Mini) - 4-5 weeks from end of production to pickup at dealership. |

Wow, that's a long shipping time. I've got to get it on the W coast, so I'm going to assume it's the longer of those 2 numbers (6-8).
I'm assuming that the time consists of the period sitting at the docks and the period sitting on the boat. I'd imagine VPC and VPC-to-dealer won't be much as the port isn't really far from here (I'm by LA). I'd like to budget about a month to try to sell my car before falling back on trading it in... so sounds like I'll have about 4 weeks if I start when the ship leaves Germany? |

Ship -> US: 2-3 weeks (depends on east coast vs west coast) US port -> dealer: 1-2 weeks (depends on unloading, customs, prep) |

To be safe, I think we are looking at 6-8 weeks from the time it leaves Germany.

Ha ha, and now we see why people generally prefer to buy their car right off the lot - instant gratification! lol
I wanted to make sure I had every option on my list, however, and the though of buying a car that's been "test driven" - especially after knowing what the SAs tell me to do when I'm taking a test drive - was too much for me to take. I want no test drives on my car, period. |

This morning and yesterday I had... Website: Order documented Phone (computer): no confirmed production date Phone (person): production started 2 of the 3 are off. Now I have... Website: Production begins Phone (computer): no confirmed production date Phone (person): production started 1 of the 3 is off. Eventually, the phone system will update. If 1 of the 3 says you're actually in production, then I'd probably believe it. When I ordered my last car it started production about a month early - guess they found a better allocation or something. |

Congrats guys - it will be Wed before you know it!
I think there's a good chance my car will be sharing a ship ride to the U.S. (east coast) with at least one of you. Still trying to find out when my car starts its journey as well as the ship's name. |
