thinking of selling..............don't

So yesterday, i took my e92 down to the dealership to get a value from them to buy the car off me. I paid £60,000.00 for the car and took delivery on 27-Dec-07. The car has just done 4500miles and is in top condition. The dealer told me that they would look to sell the car for around £46,000.00 and therefore they offered me £42,000.00. This is beyond a joke!!! Apparently the market for large engined cars is flat and apparently people are trying to off load their cars thus causing the market to become saturated. To say I was shocked was an understatement. I have decided to keep the car because there is no way I am prepared to lose that much money in such a short amount of time.

WTF is anyone doing buying a daft arsed car like an M3 and then worrying about money?

The day I picked my M3 up I blew £60K as far as I'm concerned.

Once you accept that you can crack on with enjoying it. Tyres, depreciation, petrol, stone chips - inevitable, may as well just hit the M button, stomp on the loud pedal and enjoy yersen!

Pretty much any car depreciates at least 10% the moment you take possession. M3 is no exception. And then it goes down from there.

I don't understand why you would want to get rid of your car, but if you do you might as well see it yourself.

I don't know about the UK, but the used car market has taken a MAJOR hit across the board in the US. Prices have dropped like a stone. I've been trying to get rid of my 325 (low miles, excellent cond, etc), and it ain't happening. It's just a down cycle and won't last forever. I don't think that things will stabilize and demand will pick up very soon though...

i had a good year last year so i paid cash for the car and 60k is alot to have tried up in a lump of metal. i was planning to get a smaller car to run around in for a year or so because i'm not getting alot of good driving time out of the m3. I work less than 2 miles from home and my gym is about 2 miles from my house also so i'm doing really short driving stints in the car. besides which i also have 9 points on my license so another 3 and i'm fucked!!!!!! so i was planning to sell the car and get a copper s for a year or so and see which way the wind blows then. I love the car and it does everything i need it to do, but i think i would enjoy it more if i was spending more time in it than the 6-8 daily miles i'm doing right now.

You cannot really be surprised, surely? Hoping to get a few months in an M3 and then sell it on at near list were you?

Good to hear you were so prosperous, but I think you're thinking is a bit flawed. This is not like a house where you can just flip it for cash. Its a depreciating asset. You lose more money every day you own it. The upside is its a hell of a lot of fun.

lol, dude dont mind.
it´s not a m3-phaenomen!
i bought a boxsterS (list around 69.??? €) and sell it at the moment for about 54.000€...
okay it was one year droven now(7000miles), but it´s a porsche, and porschecars have a reputation of keeping their value very long(compared to other cars in ger).
in ecconomic issues (accounting) a car is driven 5 years till it lost all value.
in the first year you lose about 25%, the most of the lose is at in the first days... then months and decreasing with the time. accept that and mind that buying a car
