Absolutely nothing "exclusive" about cars like the R8 or even the F430. 99.99% of all cars here in Los Angeles would be exclusive to a lot of eyes - I guess we're spoiled

I saw two Veyron's in one day last month, R8's are a dime a dozen. This past weekend I saw THREE damn Ferrari California's in 3 hours - LOL

Surprisingly, I don't see that many M3's... Sure, I see them here and there but I see 10x more Bentley's, AMG's, Ferrari's, Porsches, Lambo's, M5s, M6s, Maserati's, and Audi's everywhere.

So in general, the concept of exclusivity is very flawed, I'd say a Pagani Zonda is something exclusive, a 599 GTO, an Enzo, etc. But those cars not only have the exclusive price tags to match, they also have world class top-5 cars performance.

R8 is overpriced for what it is, it does have a "supercar-like" look to it but that alone isn't worth $40k more?

Just my .02

Socal does skew what an exclusive car is... i dont even bother turning my head for mid-low end supercars. They are that common.. When I moved here from the east coast I was awe struck constantly, now after 3 years its like meh.. just another car..

EDIT: I would add that if I was ballin out of control here in socal I would have to agree.. Zonda, 599, or a Enzo and possibly add a DBS in the mix Dont see those very often..

Exclusivity depends on where you live! I'm sure in California M3's and R8's are spotted every day and probably much more exotic machinery as well (please correct me if i am wrong!)

I live in Northern Germany and have never seen an R8 IRL and only 2 E92 M3's. I have never seen a E90 M3 on the road.....and i use the Autobahn regularly!

I believe there are currently 4 in the city with a vert on the way. In a city of only 350,000 that is pretty good. The benefit of a small city is that you also know a lot of the people in the high end car market and typically know who in the business community own these types of cars. But, yes, he does cause a spectacle. The M3 is only slightly less of a spectacle. I get looks and nods almost every time I drive the car.

Man, it is nothing like that living outside of the Chi in the burbs. Damn. People see a M3, 911, R8 and the whole world stops out here. I have only seen 2 M3's out here. Damn, Cali is totally different!

That is SOOOOOO true. You would think that being German cars that they would be all over Germany, they are not. Outside of my post, I have seen 1-2 M3's on the local economy and who knows...... they could have been owned by Americans too.

Only R8 I have seen on the Autobahn had dealerplates on it. Audi RS4's and Merc AMG's, I see those everyday I am out on the bahn.

One reason might be because of the premium these cars demand here in Germany, an M3 Vert loaded will set a German back 97-100k EURO, that is 120k dollars. The R8 I checked out the other day at the dealer had the nice price of 178k euro, roughly 220k dollars..... OUCH!!!

You are right, the high price of these cars in Germany (they are even more expensive i other parts of Europe) combined with the high cost of petrol make thse cars quite rare. All US members should feel very lucky at the price you can buy and run these cars for in the US, you could be runnng a 330d over here for the same cost!
