I lived in NYC with an e36 M3 5MT. Now I live in Chicago with an e92 M3 DCT. Once you get to know the DCT's features you really enjoy it IMO. The road trip from Chicago to Vegas and back for MFest was a breeze and a lot of fun with DCT.

However, I test-drove a DCT equipped 335is on the weekend and was quite impressed with the tranny. I couldn't believe how quickly it did a D7 to D3 direct downshift when merging onto the highway. The sales guy is arranging for me to test drive an M3 soon. |

I agree that it really is personal preference. Yea I think DCT has it's potential issues, but what piece of technology doesn't. On a personal level, I enjoy shifting through the gears makes the ride very enjoyable.

6MT. Automatics get boring quickly, and paddles belong on a kayak

Pilots often say something along the lines of "it's better to be on the ground, wishing you were in the air - than being in the air, wishing you were on the ground."
Well, I think it's better to have 6MT, wishing you had DCT, than having DCT, wishing you had 6MT!!! I own 6MT and wouldn't have it any other way. So much more fun, and not much different on speed and efficiency. |
