New to M3 - Some questions...

Hi;
Had a '08 335xi sedan and more recently, a '10 335ixC with sport pkge.
Picked up my new M3 at The Welt in early October. Got to drive Stelvio with nobody else there...a mystical experience!

I now have a bit over 2,000 miles and much to learn. Am I correct in the following:

1) Never noticed fog light option when buying. Lighting is fair, not great. Did I miss something??

2) Miss that heated steering wheel; pls confirm not on the M3?

3) Rear armrest not an armrest and, consequently, no cupholders in rear?

4) M3 has an ashtray where a storage bin would be more useful. Options?

5) Brakes grab when nearing a stop. Normal??

6) Brakes squeal when nearing a stop at low speed. Normal??

7) Car has competition pkge. Front bottoms out frequently on local streets if crossing a crowned road and when reaching bottom of a hill, even when I go very slowly. What am I damaging and what will it cost me to repair?

8) When will I see those lights above the tach come on??

Using Dunlops/Sport Wheels combo from TireRack.com for the snow.

I am totally smitten by this car. It connects to my neural system in a way no other car, 335's included, ever did. It simply puts a huge sh#t eating grin on my face!

Appreciate your responses!
Thx,
Bob

2) Miss that heated steering wheel; pls confirm not on the M3? Correct, not available.

3) Rear armrest not an armrest and, consequently, no cupholders in rear? Correct.

4) M3 has an ashtray where a storage bin would be more useful. Options? There is a sunglass tray option that you can replace it with.

5) Brakes grab when nearing a stop. Normal?? Not that I've noticed

6) Brakes squeal when nearing a stop at low speed. Normal?? Not that I've noticed.

7) Car has competition pkge. Front bottoms out frequently on local streets if crossing a crowned road and when reaching bottom of a hill, even when I go very slowly. What am I damaging and what will it cost me to repair? News to me. You'd have to be more specific on the actual damage. The undertray is prob what you are referring to. A commonly replaced part.

8) When will I see those lights above the tach come on?? You have to make sure the option is turned on in the iDrive.

Hi Tech: Very helpful replies!

Really, much appreciated info as I learn more about this car.

"7) Car has competition pkge. Front bottoms out frequently on local streets if crossing a crowned road and when reaching bottom of a hill, even when I go very slowly. What am I damaging and what will it cost me to repair? News to me. You'd have to be more specific on the actual damage. The undertray is prob what you are referring to. A commonly replaced part."

I was curious what front end part tends to scrap the road? I live in a hilly area and when reaching the bottom of a hill I hear something from the very front end making contact with the road as it flattens out. Happens no
matter how slowly I go.
Is this the undertray you noted?
Thx,
Bob

#6 happens to me in my new car. Took it to The dealer for the 1,200 service and they did nothing. I will ask at the next service for someone to look at them. Doesn't do it all the time but most of the time.

Under tray is the "felt" like deal up front. Mine scrapes as well sometimes.

I have found all of my M3s have had the headlights pointing at the ground. Once I reaimed them, they are *MUCH* better.

Easy to do? I need to re-aim mine.

On dips, you are less likely to scrape if you go at an angle, so that one wheel dips (or hits the bump) at a time.

The lights above the tach are shift lights to indicate when you should shift (i.e., when you're approaching redline).

Enjoy your car!

3) Rear armrest not an armrest and, consequently, no cupholders in rear?
As far as the cup holders go, I have the winter package on my '08 E90 M3. The middle armrest folds down (to pass skis). On the end of the arm rest you can depress the plastic and out pops two cup holders. FWIW.
