I have had the Evolve software for a long time and have been happy with it but I finally decided it was time to do an X-pipe to see what everyone is always talking about. I figured it would be a little louder and a little bit faster. I installed the X-pipe (with high-flow cats) last weekend and the software update for it a few days later....

WOW!!!

I have read it many times here about how great the X-pipe modification is but I never expected this. It feels like a different car and as many people here have said before this is the way the M3 should come from the factory. I always thought the car was fast-ish but never much faster than my modified E46M3 that this car replaced. It isn't like that anymore - it is now fast - like hold on fast. I know it is not supercharger and supercar fast but it is absolutely the way to go for someone who wants to stay normally aspirated.

It is paired with a UUC/Corsa cat-back and I thought it sounded good before but now it sounds GREAT! In the Lincoln Tunnel with the DCT it sounds like an F1 car at Monaco. It is VERY loud outside the car but great inside the car. During normal cruising there isn't much difference from just the cat-back until you start accelerating when it starts to scream. There is no drone at all at any RPM or speed.

Anyone in the NYC area that wants to hear/feel the difference let me know. I have showed some car people at work and they all say it sounds great.

If you are on the fence and have been thinking about an X-pipe for a while I really don't think you will be disappointed.

Nice! Sounds like you got great bang for your buck. Question - does it come with 2 cats or 4? It's difficult to tell on Evolve's site whether or not they replaced all of them. I wish I had a better understanding of the exhaust on this car, but I haven't been underneath it yet and only know that there are 4 stock cats in the system.

Thanks and congratulations!

I hope this helps explain it. Unfortunately I had the Evolve X-Pipe with the resonators sitting on top of the stock X-pipe and resonators but it should give you a good idea of what is going on under the car.

Great review Wayne! Nice to see the visual comparison versus stock as well.

I seriously need an Evolve XPipe....ASAP!

Awesome. Does anyone know if there is any drastic HP difference in a tune + high flow cat x-pipe vs tune + no cat x-pipe?

Thanks.

I have the full evolve unit and made about 380whp, stock was like 35xwhp. I wish I had a dyno of my challenge race x-pipe.

I'm just concerned about removing 2 cats. Is there an option that just uses 4 high flow or is that a stupid idea?

I think a lot of the 2-cat systems are too loud for my taste. I'd like to modify the sound similar to the BMW performance exhaust.

have you seen the video of my car with the full Evolve? Sounds amazing, I have heard the M Performance with x pipe and it a different sound. Something that you have to get use to and I am not a fan

Thanks.
By deleting the secondary cats, I'd imagine the gains to be rather minimal on an XPipe that already deletes primary cats. If ever it might make the car smell a minute amount more, increased volume, increase rasp, and possibly eek out a few more ponies.

I think the biggest determining factor would be the muffler. I think there are exhaust setups out there that sound very clean, classy, and quiet with primary cat deletes. Akrapovic, Evolve Automotive, and Supersprint are the three that come to mind that are all high-end top quality systems, but in no way do they sound harsh or overly aggressive.

I agree, the only thing is that the akra is bit to quite for me. My friend had a challenge race and akra and it was quite, but ALOT of drone. I agree the exhaust will refine the sound, and there are ALOT of different setups. (I have been through so many)

Great video to showcase your car! And you're right. The sound of your Evolve system is much more in line with what I was hoping. I'm glad to see that. Now I need to find a local shop in AZ to start the build-out.

Thanks, everyone, for your input!

Their x-pipe has a very refined sound. Basically all upside from stock. No drone (at all), without question improved sound and enhanced performance. Experienced drone on exhausts that others claimed had none, and this one doesn't. Stock catback here.
