Newbie

Just placed an order for a SG E90, DCT with the competition, convenience, cold weather, PP2 packages. Am a little torn about ordering the moonroof. Don't really use it much and was thinking it might save me some weight. However, would be wondering about resale in the future for a car without one. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you're not a fan of moonroof. Don't get it, then.

As for selling later, it's a matter of finding like-minded buyer(s).

EDIT: The general trend, though, seems like E90's on the streets tend to have moonroof, and E92's don't.

I just bought my E92 (not an E90 like yourself) but it has the carbon roof. I actually don't like moon roof's and cars I have owned in the pass that had them I just kept it closed. One of the reasons I passed on the CTS-V the week before getting the M3 was that all the local examples had moon roofs...and the sedans have those "ultra view" super large moon roofs. I feel that may actually be an issue with resale down the line given the reports of multiple issues already showing up of these roof's on the Caddies.

Personally, its up to you. I think the fact your getting some good options on it as is shouldn't really affect resale. Its one less thing that "may" go wrong, you get some extra head room, and like you said...its lighter.

I am pretty sure the E90's do not even have a CF roof option. Does it not come with a standard sunroof?

It's been so long since I researched this aspect of the M3....

On BMW's "Build You Own" the E90 has an $1050 optional moonroof. So, I guess you can order it without one. It really is too bad you can't get the carbon roof on the sedan's...that would look really nice.

Probably not the answer you're looking for. But my thought process has always been that I'm buying the car for my own enjoyment, not to sell it to the next buyer.

There's a good article by James May in Top Gear magazine a few month ago on this very same subject. You're 100% spot on. You're buying the car for your own enjoyment first and foremost, so color combos, options and such should all be what you want and don't worry about the resale.

Agreed. People who are looking at used cars are generally not a particular to begin with, hence them buying used, and are therefore more interested in price over specific features. Buy the car YOU want and let someone else worry about that decision when they are buying.

Besides, most enthusiasts (Ready for flames) prefer the carbon roof

like any other option, it comes down to personal preference...

it's not like a non-moonroof e90 m3 = m3 civic or something

If it's between the steel roof and the moonroof, I'd get the moonroof. I miss having a moonroof. I love the CF roof on the e92 and all, but i used to always drive with the moonroof open.
