Poll for choosing a date is here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=292716

You can pick more than one weekend so if you're free each weekend, pick them all.

Did you all decide on a date? This Sunday I believe there is actually a drive going to Skyline.

So far looks like the 12th of Sep. is the best date for everyone. And probably the best date for less traffic as well.

The time is still up for a vote once we finally nail down a day.

I hope we can all agree on a time in a less formal manner. Personally, I was thinking that we can meet up at IHOP for breakfast while we give stragglers time to get there.....man's gotta eat! Breakfast is normally at around 8:30-9:00AM so we can depart NLT 9:30-10:00AM; we can shift the time an hour or so.

I like that idea. With the route I posted earlier, there's an ihop around each end of the route.

Alrighty.....the poll has spoken! The final date for the Luray trip is on Saturday Sept 12th. If you plan on attending, please update the list with your name in order to get a head count.

Also, if you have any thoughts or plans, please let us know. We need to have a rough plan by the end of the week (Aug 30th).

Here are some recommendations:

Breakfast (IHOP)
Drive (Skyline Drive, Luray)
Luray Caverns
Wine Tour (near Luray)
Lunch (TBD)
Drive (Skyline Drive)
Dinner (TBD)

Also, check out the drive route that Darkstar recommended.

Edit*: Don't forget to add the person that will be coming with you...i.e., SUB-ZERO +1 (fiance). Since we will probably do some dining, it will be nice to call ahead and reserve a few tables.

Thanks,
SZ

There is an IHOP when you get off 66 to get to 29. Perhaps we can meet there and then take 29 to Skyline.

Just a suggestion.

You might have to zoom out to see everything.

Here's a sample of one of the roads:

I say we meet at the ihop that's at rt 28 and rt 50, then take rt 50 west to where the route I posted above starts. That way we start off with backroads and end it with probably the best section of road on the east coast; where rt 211 meets skyline drive.

We could stop to eat in Front Royal or I could alter the route to take backroads from rt 50 to the Apple House that's just off 66 outside Front Royal. Or go with a resturaunt that's on Skyline Drive.

Also, a good place to stop for a group photo (besides skyline dive) would be lined up across "Low Water Bridge" going into Front Royal. It's a long one lane bridge that skims just above the river. Right before crossing it there's a large gravel parking lot so we can stop there to gather our forces.

My e46 on Low Water Bridge:

Sub-Zero, can you change the title of the thread to include the date? Something like Skyline/Backroads Drive September 12th.

Wow....looks great! Seems like you have this route down. I'm all for using your route/plan; it's better than what I had in mind.
