Exclamation Oil prices just went up!!!

A tidbit from todays track session. Playing with a Turbo S for a bit until the worst happened. Super great guy, felt horrible, and it was the RS 4.0 that blew ahead of us. Considered myself lucky and went home.

Guy hit the tire wall but was fine and had a great "shit happens" attitude.
Be careful out there guys....

He's not sure but thinks the engine may have blown. I know the guy and he hasn't had the best of luck with it. It was apparently just billowing blue smoke going into that turn where the turbo went off, he had no idea, and then he said the whole dash light up like Christmas and the car just started shaking. Unfortunately, won't see these guys till next year but was a bit scary to say the least

Glad everyone is OK. How is that guy feeling? I just bought a HANS...should be here Thurs.

That's a tough one but if someone is smoking I always back off. Never write off a weird smell...its telling you something. Like if you smell coolant there's probably some around. Not saying that this is the case though. Coolant is way worse. Harder to see and probably even slicker than oil.

My understanding is that you drive on the track at your own peril...meaning the 4.0 doesn't owe the Turbo guy anything. I'm interested to hear the outcome, not sure what happens in these cases.

I was there when the 2 guys talked and it was very amicable and they both realize these are the risks involved. Don't think the blame game will be played here, but you never know and will keep things posted if I hear anything just as a data point. Not sure if the 4.0 will be covered but do know he had a transmission issue up at RA earlier in the year (car wouldn't go into certain gears) and had the whole tranny replaced under warranty. Will see about this one though...

Anyways, you guys and your toys--that sure looks like a cool ass club to be a part of.
He didn't see the oil or the flag, I saw both. We had been going back and forth all session and he said to me after that he was planning on taking it real late in that corner and try and put some distance on me as I was a bit faster in the following section, unfortunately think he was more focused on me than the flag worker and conditions. In the video you can see the start/finish guy waving the black while the surface-change flag was also out, shit happens though

Nice driving on your part as usual Klammer .

Incredible the power on the Turbo S, it just pulls away so effortlessly .

The thump we hear near the end of the vid, is it the 911 hitting the wall? If so, ouch !!

It seems to me we have a classic case of red mist here. The Turbo S driver seems to be overdriving (to his abilities) as he missed quite a few apexes and overshot the exit of a few corners. This is most likely the reason he didn't see the oil trail and the flags. Too bad it finished like this for him .

The turbo S is stupid fast and the induction sound is crazy. You can hear me on the lap going into the mishap responding to the car and how crazy fast it is, and yes that's the sound of it hitting the tire wall

Wow! Absolutely terrifying. Turbo S owner didn't appear to recognize the spill and slow down at all.

The RS 4.0 that blew, black one? Presume it's probably the 4.0 that was at Gingerman a few weeks back. He was from the Chicago area.

Thanks for sharing the footage. Oil spill now permanently logged as a hazard to watch out for.

Yowza! Glad you made it through that one unscathed. Also glad the Turbo driver was ok. He shot off the track like a rocket. Wonder if he had track insurance.

What they say about 911s getting a good launch out of corners is true--he would just disappear on most corner exits. Is that why you were hootin' and hollerin' at one point in the clip?

Disappointing to hear that about the GT3RS 4.0. I had always thought that Porsches were relatively bulletproof on track, especially such a track-focused model like that.

All the canyon racers should see this clip--can you imagine the outcome for the Turbo driver if he had hit that oil trail while running behind the GT3RS in the canyons of Orange County? Or if he hit the oil while doing 30-150 runs against a modded GTR on the street?

A GTI blew his coolant at Shenandoah this weekend, but not catastrophically. I was just about to pass him, running right at the edge, and I was slow to recognize what was going on, when the first droplets hit my windshield.

But once I did, I just changed my line immediately so as to not be behind him, he gave me the pass and I was frantically waving at him. Not sure if he saw me, or interpreted my non-standard arm signals the right way...

Anyway, that reminded me of the most important fact, that I'm in my daily driver, and I should always leave something in reserve.

Nice driving BTW, your lines are just so right. The was one right hand corner though where you jumped the inside curb and I thought the car would snap into oversteer... Not knowing the track of course...

Yes, it's the black one. Great guy, tough way to end the year.

Crazy thing was in that same corner, had a viper blow a diff and spray me with oil last year. Couldn't see shit, that was scary. I always leave a bit in reserve and never really feel out of control, but then again I never try and fight anybody off, just let them pass, and that's where I think people have trouble. Nobody likes seeing a 4 door come up on their sportscar, especially in the advanced run groups, but I'm making em earn it
