My First Ever BMW, What to do?

Hey all, I'm pretty new to this forum but have been reading it night and day for the last week. Have some questions because I want/need/will be getting my first BMW M3 Coupe . I test drove a 328i Coupe last week and WOW was I amazed. I have a Mercedes C320 and was going to get the new C350 Coupe, but no more. I want to do the ED as I believe there is no other way to do it. On top of that I want to do individual order as well. Questions below:
  • #1: If I do ED for a E92 and want to take delivery next Sep 2012 will I still be able to order it for that time frame? If not when is the last time I can order?
  • #2: I want to do individual order. Can I order a E92 in either Brilliant White or Mineral Grey with Carneol Red Merino Leather Extended and Piano Finish Black with Inlay? It's not listed for the M3 just the 3 Coupes. Plus anyone have pictures of the interior in that color? Plus any suggestions on what you guys think of those combos?
  • #3: Who should I order from? I see a couple of dealer here but haven't figured out how that works and whom to go with.

I have never wanted something so bad like this. I want to do as much research as possible to make this whole experience great. I'm so excited to start this process and thank all of you in advance for your advice.

These are all great questions for your Sales Rep. My advice is to find either a friend that's purchased through a dealership before and trust their good experience. I was fortunate to have friends that own BMWs and relied on their recommendation for a good sales rep. I'm also a first time BMW owner.

#1. I believe e92s are only in production till June 2012. The next generation M3 won't come out until 2013-2014.

#2. See answer above.

#3. I believe everyone on the east coast buys from the same person. Do a search on the forums. or read the pricing forums. I'm a west coaster so I didn't pay attention to that dealership.

If you're set on an e92 and can't order a new one by June 2012. Then I recommend getting a used one by your Sept 2012 time frame. Otherwise wait a few years for the new m3.

Of course I'm also a newb so I'm sure people will correct my answers.

I wish I could wait til a few years but I can't. Way to long. 6+ months is already long enough.

Well, like I said. I've been driving the new Mercedes C and they are nice, but once I got into the 328i it was a whole new experience. I've never felt that type of driving before. I want to go back and test drive a 335i just to feel that.

Yeah, you should contact GOLFR... But I would HIGHLY recommend that you test drive the 335i and a M3 before you pull the trigger. They are both great cars, but obviously the M3 has that superb feeling that is very difficult to describe in words. Good luck with your purchase and welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the advice. Here in Lexington they don't have a M3 so I have to do the 355i. I'm most definitely getting the M3 though.

ED is an experience worth doing. But your schedule on getting a 2012 E92 M3 is on the borderline on when BMW will stop the current E90's series. For a September ED, that means that your car will start the production line early September or late August. Move your ED delivery earlier to be on the safe side. You can do/order whatever you like with your M3.

You can't do Merino interior in the US on the 3ers because apparently different leather has to be crash-tested here and BMW didn't want to go through all that just for an Individual option. Piano Black should be available, but I'm not sure what you mean by inlay.

Crash tested leather, really? Wow. That's so sad. I liked the color of that red better then the other two. Oh well.

Inlay is what it says after the Piano Black. It's the full name.

I know, it's apparently because it changes the seats and some of the impact surfaces. Who knows, maybe it really does make a difference, but it's a bummer nonetheless. But still, trust me the M3's Novillo leather is leaps and bounds better than the basketball texture Dakota leather in the normal 3s.

That sucks, but look somewhere else if you can. It is a must IMO.
I agree that September delivery might be too early, but Golfrr would know better.
Also, once you have a delivery date, start looking into your trip plans. Search the forums... Lots of good info out there. If you need any pointers send me a pm; I live in Bavaria.

Unfortunately it isn't as durable as Dakota. The Novillo leather wears out very fast.

I'll be leasing it, so I'm not that worried about it wearing out on me. I'll need to renew into the new M4.
