Balls of steel. I think we can all agree we would all do this if $$$ was not an issue.

Much high experienced professionals had to be put into this project. This would be the first actual complete swap with a e90 m3. Only ones who have done it on e92 e93 m3 body style and e90 335 by hartage.

We ran into an issue that the e90 m3 body style is 2 inches wider but 2 inches shorter. This was a big issue due to room in the bay. The front Subframe was in the way where the oil pan goes. So we had to push the engine back towards the firewall, rerouting all ac and heater wires. This also meant that we had to make custome engine mounts, transmission mounts, and new shifter linkage. On top of that we had to fabricate the subframe for more clearance.
This was all a headache by itself!

Great start and doing it proper I see. The sound from that engine is always music to my ears, especially with an aftermarket exhaust!

Finally a truly Epic build in the works. Not like another thread that just purchases some parts off the shelf, has the dealer install them and call it a "build thread". Way to go Sir!

In for updates!

Wow! Sounds like a lot of work. Luckily the E9x and E6x use the same architecture in terms of CAS/KEY/DME - even the plugs are the same. So this will be much easier to do (electronics wise) versus something like putting an S65 or S85 into an E46 or E30.

You're going to have one of the most incredible M3's out there, that's for sure! Keep the pictures coming

Dashman your right! Even with these low miles on these engines there is still a lot of wear that has been done on the bearings. I am hoping this engine will not have any problems until 50k miles. Then I will decide to take out the crank and resize.

But for now I will be sending all my oil reports to Blackstone for analysis. This will help me keep me informed of what's going on more with these engines

I suggest you also do a leak down and compression test... No tear down required and cheap peace of mind!

Sti: if you need any help or run into an electronics pickle along the way, id be more than happy to help you. SoCal makes it easy. Also- if you shoot me the vin # of the donor car, I will gladly send you the service records and maintenance history. Personally I'd do a compression test before firing her up, but with 22k you would expect everything to be fine. Build on!

Yes you brought up the idea of the compression test. I will definitely do this when engine build is complete. I did checked all maintenance records and history of car and all was well maintained by BMW dealer.

ibmike- the build is finally coming together. Soon I should have a closer day by day schedule of when the coding will be done. And first start up would be ready and launched!

Awesome build. That fact that you had to relocate the engine further back works in your favor, to offset the extra weight out front that the S85 incurs.

Can't wait to see this completed and PLEASEEEE more pics!
