I can't believe my camera is already four years old.
Don't see myself upgrading though. unless the D4's ISO 12,800 is noise-free.

Speaking of which, I've been experimenting with high ISO shots. Certainly not great IQ, especially with a T1i. But in a pinch they work pretty well, especially with a bit of PP. This shot is 12800 ISO. My 85mm F1.8 wide open at 1/30sec. It would be very cool to be able to shoot in this ridiculously low light at this speed and not have a ton of noise.

(And yes, I know, my cat is a lint magnet.)

nice. surprised the cat stayed still for 1/30th of a second!

don't get me wrong, i love grain, but when you lose sharpness, it's not fun. :\

Yeah and the NR you need to make these at all usable just kills the sharpness.

Great cat shot M_Six. The DOF is so shallow that it's hard to tell where OOF begins and noise and NR artifacts step in. Looking at the cat's right eye, which is very sharp, says that this high ISO has some utility. Try some night street scenes with more DOF to understand the camera's capacities better.

Canon or Nikon? Seems to me Canon lenses have still been creeping up.

It should take the settings you used for the first image and apply it to the rest. This is how it works in CS5. I don't have CS4 so I have no way to see if it works the same.
Worked awesome! Thanks.

Cool. Bridge is useful for batching stuff. Does a great job of renaming with sequential numbering, too. Like NYC_Trip01, NYC_Trip02, etc. Beats the hell out of IMG_0987543 when you're trying to find something.

Yep, finding it pretty handy.

Now I just need to find a hosting/printing solution so I can see if any parents would be foolish enough to actually buy some of my shots!

I shot my kids' dance recital. First two groups I was at ISO 6400, so the noise is up there (Nikon D3.) I did drop down to ISO 4000 for the remainder, which helped with the noise. But even shooting f2.8 at ISO 4000, I still had some shots dip down to 1/160th. Tough to keep motion blur down at that shutter speed, as well as camera shake especially at 170mm to 200mm.

Yeah, this is where IS lenses earn their high cost. I rented a 70-200mm F4L (non-IS) a few weeks ago and was bummed at how hard it was to keep steady. Glad I don't have to qualify with a rifle any more. I couldn't hit shit. Any telephoto lens I buy from now on will have to have IS.

You must have been reading my mind. We should start a thread for folks to post past fireworks pics and maybe some info on how they got the shot. I'm going to try my hand at it this year with the new gear.

my 70-200 does have VR, which helps except with motion blur. But yeah, worth the extra cost in my mind. I also had the rig on a monopod, with the base on my seat between my legs. That made it easy to quickly change from landscape to portrait, as well as not making my arms tired.

But the work flow is a little tiresome........

I used to worry about ISO but then figured out that if I can get a decent exposure, the NR in LR can remove the grain without much damage. Although I don't usually shoot at very high ISO shots taken at 3200 with a speed of 100th @F2.8 come clean. At the HS musical and orchestra where light is sometimes at a premium I gave up trying to shoot w/o a tripod. I'm usually at about 80'+ away from the stage and am either in the back or in the AV room with my tripod. I turn IS off

In for fireworks shots but I can't really get wide enough.

This is of course a rumor and not an official announcement of specs, but here's what one magazine is saying:

Nikon D4:
full frame 18MP CMOS sensor (8 MP when cropped to APS-C)
usable ISO 51200
11fps (20fps with live view, 30fps with APS-C crop)
flexible LCD monitor
built-in WiFi
51 point all-cross AF point
