The way that I see it is this: iDrive is essential unless you want to track your car regularly.
The new F30 3-Series will have iDrive standard which means a much bigger depreciation for the E90 without iDrive. That and the bare-bones, crappy radio that BMW installs in the E9x after MY2009 -impossible to retrofit anything unless the whole radio is replaced- makes the iDrive a must, IMO. |

It's funny you mention that iDrive is nearly a must have. When I was ordering my E92 335, I stayed away from iDrive like it was the plague. That was the awful 2007 interfact though. That, and it didn't have any of the "M mode" benefits that the M3 does, with iDrive. Oh, and I got Premium Pack, which back then gave you the 13 speaker Professional system that sounds fantastic. With this M3, can you help me understand what speaker/sound system limitations you are talking about with the non-iDrive cars? I know the M3 has an Enhanced Sound package, that upgrades the speakers (quality only or # of them too??), but since that's a stand-alone option, I didn't think iDrive/tech package directly impacted the sound system itself. Does my question make sense? Thanks |

I am in the market for a used m3 and I, for one, am impartial to idrive/tech package. I think idrive is really cool, and edc would be a nice little bonus in my book. That said, I will probably be keeping this car for quite a while, and those are two areas where I may face big expenses when the warranty runs out. Just something to consider. Not saying they will fail, but more likely than a non-tech car.

The retrofit limitations of the OEM HU are: - no Sirius unless is factory-installed - no Bluetooth Audio - Combox is useless as there is no display of anything - USB is limited to a 2-line dot-matrix display |

Thanks. Any idea of the speaker count on a non enhanced sound system? With my 335, it came standard with the better 13 speaker system for 2007. I think it became an option on 335's after that year. |
