I'm wondering what's wrong with the other Cayman vs M3 thread (beside the fact it's also posted in the wrong section)?

It seems like two odd cars to compare, but I was in the same spot also and decided the M3 was more to my liking, all things considered. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Well, Fifth Gear concluded the 135 was better than the Cayman, and I surely hope that the M3 is better than the 135...

Wait it out for the direct injection and makeover in 09. Cayman S is a definite must drive and own if possible. The only bad is that P car owners that are in the 911 realm of the totem pole seem to be on the snobby side when it comes to the Croc and its naked companion the Boxster.

I just sold my 2007 Cayman S. I don't think this is a case of which is a better car - they are both great - but rather a matter of what kind of car you need/want. I loved my CS but concluded I needed more than two seats, as I often ended up not driving the car because I had a couple of kids with me. Can't go wrong with either car, just depends on your objectives...

M3 vs. Cayman s
After serious consideration, I decided to buy 2 cars instead of 1, i.e., Aston Martin Vantage (my first choice): 2008 Cayman S + BMW 335 Coupe. 335 is my everyday car and Cayman is my weekend joy ride. The reason is simple, for everyday car I need 4 seats, period. However in weekends, I only need 1, or 2 for that matter. Cayman drives totally different from 335 with its mid-engine rear-drive layout. Even with 335's sport suspension pkg, the Cayman still offers better handling & driving experience. I know this is a site for M3, nonetheless my personal opinion is that there is simply no substitution for pure sport cars like Cayman. M3 may run faster straight-line, but when it comes to total balance, Porsche is the undisputed champion unless BMW decides to sell one similar to Cayman.

^^ Did your salesman sell you a 328 and call it a 335?

It'll still rip a new one in the M3 in the corners without one FME.
To the OP. The Cayman will feel/drive better than the M3. The M3 is a beast and in the right hands it can handle quite well. The M3 is a more usable day to day car and both are highly reliable - probably the cayman more (has much less techno gadgets). However, the Cayman is very very easy to drive and if ordered with pasm and short shifter, the car is even more easier to drive and comfortable for a sports car.

If you're comparing the cayman s against the m3 sedan, get the m3 sedan. The m3 sedan has the perfect balance of practicality, performance, and comfortable daily driving. |
