Test drove DCT e90 m3 today...

Hey guys i have a 2011 m3 zcp coupe 6 speed, and i wanted to go with a 4 door manual at first, but at my local dealer they only had a DCT in alpine white with black/red interior, i decided to drive it to see how the sedan felt to a coupe. I have now decided that DCT is truely insane, and for me having the m3 as a daily driver i have decided to purchase that car with DCT. I cant wait to go back and pick up !

Another note is that the e92 m3 zcp did not feel as tight as the sedan did, and the 6 speed i had was either wearing or had some issues, but honestly the 6 speed manual in my book was the only thing i had ever driven was a stick. Well done bmw you have transformed me into DCT fan Sorry for the ramble i am just very excited!

I have had 4 BMWs in a row and all were manual transmission (including a 2008 E93 M3). After choosing an E92 M3 with DCT this time around, I am enjoying the DCT immensely. It is awesome!

I used to drive manuals only, but when it came to an E92 M3 went with the DCT and never looked back.

Congrats & enjoy!

I decided the dual-clutch systems are only going to get better and more reliable with time, but this was possibly my last chance to get a true manual + NA M V8! Hope I get to keep her forever.

I agree with dave. I'm sure the dct feels great and shifts awesome, but unless you are buying the car semi-new or cpo, only a lunatic would own a dct used car out of warranty.

I have always had MT cars in the past. When it was time to order my ///M3, I wanted to sample this new dual clutch technology, so I ordered mine with DCT. I actually had to wait an additional 6 months because the DCT was not yet available. I ended up having one of the first DCTs in Canada (the dealer told it was the first, but I am a sceptic ).

Although I sometimes miss rowing my own gears and heel & toeing, I really enjoy the DCT. Especially on track where it is pure joy. I would order DCT again in a heartbeat.

You will definitely enjoy your new acquisition .

Trevor, i'm curious - do you end up losing a lot of money on the exchange? you didn't say what year you were buying, but presumably you are exchanging a 2011 for another 2011, but you'd be paying more for the new car than you would sell the old car for?

When my buddy took me for a ride in his E90 DCT I started to question my purchasing the 6MT.

Then his car went into the shop as it starting skipping gears. (Paddle shifting)

Your definition of "lunatic" must be pretty broad...

Just look at the number of DCT transmission BMW has sold and the number of people who have mechanical horror stories. Lets also add this transmission is also slated to make it to two generations of M3's. I just don't see the need for the amount of fear people are tossing around with this transmission.

But to each his/her own...

Yes it would suck to have to buy a rebuilt DCT but I'm figuring I save more on not trading in a perfectly good car than it would cost.

I too come from a manual transmission background. I have an e90 M3 with DCT and I like it, but I'm glad I still have my 07 MCS w/ manual transmission! I can't get use to manually shifting the DCT.

DCT on the track is pretty nuts - I love it!
Allows me to concentrate more on my line and believe me I need all the help I can get.

DCT with Wife (as the passenger) is awesome too - use your imagination......
