6MT transmissin filter: BMW service bulletin- SI B 00 04 08
Just came back from the service dept. I asked them about "cleaning the transmission filter" and the service adviser came back after asking the mechanic telling me " they have to take down the whole transmission to do that". Since his first response was" M3 doesn't have a filter", I wonder if anyone could tell me whether it is something easy to clean.
The service bulletin says: Remove and clean the transmission filter on the standard-equipment 6-speed manual unit They again didn't put enough oil and I will go back for sure. |

If they are talking about the oil screen which is a hollow cylindrical metal mesh filter looking thing, then no, the transmission does not need to be dropped. It screws in on the bottom side of the transmission and can be removed and cleaned once they remove the transmission oil. They should be doing it during a transmission oil change.

I just took it out, checked for particles and sprayed it clean with brake cleaner. Make sure it is dry and put it back in with a new washer.
