M3 Manual... how to do those awesome high-adrenaline launches?

So we all know that most automatic sport cars have a feature called launch control...A few i know is the porsches, lambos, and I think that DCT m3s do also.. but I'm not sure. This pretty much gives you the biggest rush of adrenaline you can get in a car.

So my question is... How do we achieve something similar in a manual car? Or more specific, a manual M3? Anyone know?

DSC off -

select 1st gear

add some revs, balance the throttle and the clutch perfectly, keeping the car right in its power band but with a limited 5% wheelspin for a perfect launch.

Basically you need to practice.

And i assume that it does damage to the car a bit, correct?

-EDITED-

I asked a similar question on a different thread, and I believe I was told that the wheelspin & tires would absorb most of the effect during that sort of launch.

Also, you still have to be gentle, and you can't just drop the clutch abruptly.....Or it could wear out the clutch faster I believe.

Perfect formula, particularly the practice part. If you control wheel spin with the throttle rather than the clutch, then it's not really very hard on the car.

There's no set formula of rpm because surfaces vary. The M3 has enough power that it's better to start with too little wheel spin vs. too much. You can always push the loud-pedal just a little forward, but it you absolutely and totally break the tires completely loose, then it's hard to regain traction.

Get the AA software upgrade, one of its features includes launch control- it basically gives us 6mt guys launch control.

what it does is, the car only revs to about 4100-4200 rpm. it holds at that rpm for you and then just release clutch and launch away.

Are you kidding??? You can do that with your friggin right foot. What advantage is there to that? Have you used it? There got to be more to it.

Unless the software somehow adjusts the DSC so that you can leave it on and not have it kill the power totally to control wheel spin, there's no point in having a program to hold the throttle.

Oh, and BTW, 4100-4200 rpm is way too high unless you're going to ride the clutch, or the DSC is somehow altered to spin the wheels in a controlled manner.

Easy up man, I didnt design it. To be honest, I couldn't care less to have launch control, Ive only used it maybe 3-4 times since I've had the AA software. Launch Control doesnt do it for me in any way (as it seems to REALLY do it for the OP). When I have used it, I havent even let it get up to 4000+ rpm because I agree that it is a little too high for a launch.

I have no idea if it alters how or when the DSC kicks in, in order to control tire spin. I didn't design the software

I only posted this info because OP wanted to know if there was any solution to his lack of LC in his 6MT M3, and as far as I know this is the closest thing to a solution.

No offense meant slammedm3. Sorry if I came off a little strong. It just struck me as a really odd mod. I went over to AA's site and read the description and it does seem to simply hold the throttle steady, at least as the describe it.

In your experience, is the AA launch control in any way different from what you can do with your right foot? If not, I don't understand the point. It's easy to hold the throttle steady, which I recommend for repeatable results, and then let the clutch out.

w/ the AA tune you can press the pedal down all the way or just past what it would be normally @ 4200.

the ecu will hold it until 1~2mph.

yes you can do the same thing with your foot but its just makes things a bit easier.

Its just an added bonus when you get the tune.

Ok.

Maybe if I hadn't been launching for 4-decades I'd see the point.

Even though your suggestion is meant as afront, for those that own 6-speeds and have to come here to ask about launch control, it's probably very good advice. With DCT they will not need to understand things like clutches and throttles and simply mash the right-pedal to the floor so the car can do all the work.
