This is actually highly dependent on where you live. On the east coast, people honk fairly regularly (varying depending on which city). But people virtually never honk on the west coast. So the Prius getting honked at was probably just freaked out and confused And if they are merging doing 35 (I see this far too often), then they are almost certainly and idiot and easily confused.

The horn is there for a reason and should be used (but not abused). As stated, a light honk when someone is not paying attention at a light is perfectly acceptable. Or a longer one when someone is coming into your lane.

Prius drivers here in the San Francisco Bay Area SUCK.

Today, I was driving home from my office, and there is a Prius in front of me. It's driving fairly well - albit, slow - but, I notice something.

So, like most, if not all states, our plates look like this:

Month sticker on the left, year sticker on the right.

Yeah... this Prius driver must have been really, really "special." On the left hand side, there is a 2011 sticker, and then on the right hand side, a 2012 sticker.

It's like... WTF?! How does even manage to commit such stupidity!?

I'm pretty sure I've read about this, but doesn't the process of creating a single Prius battery damage the environment more by the waste and bi products created, than running an average car for its' lifespan?

I revved at a light at a Prius, much to my wife's embarrassment. He reved back and gave me a thumbs up. So I said FUCK YOU CAPTAIN PLANET and turned off my traction control and burned out of there. At the next light he gave me a thumbs down and I lol'd.

ME TOO!!!!!
That lady is crazy!! All of that complaining smelling the exhaust and she could have just walked away and gone on with her day.

I always find Prius drivers to be the most aggressive (in fact, I see them pulled over all the time). Always funny to see the "environmentally friendly" ones tossing cigarettes into the street..

People definitely are to generous with their horn usage, but in the OPs case I probably would have done the same thing. Nothing fucking sucks worse than ending up at a standstill at the end of the merging lane with cars flying past you because the douche in front was going to slow and the traffic is to thick to merge properly at a safe FAST enough speed.

Drive at your own pace and all, but not when its putting everyone behind you in a bad situation. If you are doing 20 under in the slow lane thats your prerogative, and I will not get mad at you for it. Now pace the guy that is doing 20 under in the slow lane, while in the fast lane, expect my horn, or for me to pass you on the shoulder after about 5 miles of that bullshit.
trying driving in NY/NJ. They honk at you RIGHT BEFORE the light turn green if your brake light is still on lol

I just had this Prius experience this morning on my commute to work.

I came up behind this Prius on the left lane, I was going about 10 above the limit and the Prius was going about 5 under the limit, so obviously I had to slow down to get behind it (not tailgating at all). There was no cars to the Prius' immediate right so there was no reason for this Prius to be in the left lane if it wasn't passing. So I gently passed it on the right and got in front of it on the left lane (not aggressively, did not cut it off).

At that point the Prius just went bat shit crazy, floored it to tailgate me while flashing high beams and honking the horn. I was confused, I did not do anything aggressive (did not tailgate or cut off) to provoke him. I passed him with plenty of room in between so there was actually no impact on his leisurely path. So WTF??? I know I wasn't supposed to pass on the right but I wouldn't have to do it if he wasn't going under the limit on the left lane to begin with.

Lol, so I just floored it and left him in the dust.
