buy some shares of a strong growing stock and in few years, you'll have both.

Go for the watch, and do local track/HPDE events.

Saw a few M school reviews and, other than the rare experience of driving various M cars (1M, M3 & M5) in one setting, it doesn't seem to be all that.

I agree with this man! Experiences over goods! Case in point, I got a new watch for my last birthday and have all but forgotten about it, whereas I always smile when I relive my Watkins Glen track day!

Get the watch and enjoy some local HPDE events. I'd love to have an IWC watch on my wrist one day.

I tried this once. Didn't work.

I'd never discourage someone from investing, but long-term stock buys need to be chosen very carefully, if at all. Think about it, if it were so easy to make a big return, it would mean the investment was underpriced and the market would fix that. And, generally speaking, individual investors buying individual stocks are going to be at a significant disadvantage, compared to Wall St.

I appreciate this thread, because I've had the same question: is M School really so much better than a decent HPDE as to justify the cost diff? And if you're going to do a commercial school, would it be better to just hit Skip Barber?

Oh, and hello errbody!

My husband is a watch enthusiast, and he has gotten me to appreciate fine mechanical watches. Last year, I picked out my first automatic after a long time searching (I'm like that). I enjoy the watch immensely.

I'd also want to experience 2 day M school. I did a one day course here (in Canada) with half a day in an M3. But really what I got out of that experience (which was definitely worth it) is that I wanted an M3.

I'd say pick the one you think will give you better memories. The watch was waaaay more meaningful to me because my husband could buy me something he is a real enthusiast about and i got to pick it (and he loves it).

Can you negotiate?

I would try to negotiate a few HPDE events that equate the cost of the M school.

When I purchased my E46 M3, it came with a free stage-1 M driving school. Fun when free, but definitely not worth it if you have to pay.

Have you done any other track schools? I'm just curious if nearly 4-grand is worth 2 days? Seems costly, even if amazing?

As for the choices in this thead, I like the local auto-x clinic and watch!

If you haven't got a 'luxury' watch yet, I'd say get that! Have a look at some nice classic sports rolex models, like a GMT 2 or a Submariner...they're proven models that have been around for over 50 years. Also would be nice as a gift to pass on to your children, if you have any, in the future as well. The values generally hold up well for the more popular sports models.

I'm quite a watch enthusiast and I can tell you I get as much enjoyment from nice watches as I do from nice cars. Definitely worth a look at getting in to in my view.

Also, not wanting to sound like a douche, but they are a great conversation starter when meeting new people! I find it more socially acceptable to talk about watches with people I meet as opposed to discussing how exciting my last track day was!

I can easily see how you regret not getting the other thing and later end up paying out of your own pocket to get whichever you didn't pick. So just pick whichever one that pleases you the most at the moment.
