No EDC No M Drive

Anyone care to venture an opinion on what the M3 will be like minus both or either one of those features? I'm guessing they will be 3K each as options. Does that sound about right?

First of all I am wondering if Mdrive will even be an option? It would be nice to only have to deal with the buttons...

But you loose some possible settings without MDrive (second steering mode, third power mode aswell as the M Dynamic Mode).

EDC is not needed IMO, but I guess I'm the only one here thinking so...

Best regards, south

If you're looking to save yourself 6k in options, these are just about the last two options that you want to do it with. The M Division has made a deliberate drive towards customizable performance and handling, to the point where M has almost become synonymous with customization. Beside the obvious point that these will most likely be considered "must have options" that will harm re-sale value if you don't get them... you'd be foregoing some of the M's more useful bells and whistles by opting out of these options, at least in my opinion.

Thanks for the opinions. I guess basically it is going to be 65K for the car. I too think M Drive and EDC will be awesome. I also want the 19's, full leather, upgraded audio, and the "Executive Pkg" as shown on the Canadian ordering guide. Crap, might be 68-70K then I'm into M5 and Porsche territory...decisions decisions. Dammit.

More like 72-74K, just to be realistic.

+0.5

You will have a much harder time finding a buyer, but there is always the odd purist buyer out there who will be after a stick, set suspension, and no M drive.

I believe $3k each is excessive. I predict at least $1-$1.5k less for each. I could see the EDC being only $1k. Can't guess on MDrive.

I suspect they will bundle these things up somehow.

In Germany, EDC is €1,597 and MDrive is €437. That's with an M3 base price of €56,008. If you replace those figures with dollars, you should be in the ballpark for the US.

M drive includes iDrive and Nav, so at a minimum M drive alone will be 2500...

MDrive does not include Nav, unless BMWUSA chooses to package it that way; it just has more capability with Nav. Per my previous post, it's just over €400 in Germany.

Much depends on whether or not the iDrive interface minus Nav is standard as on the 2008 5 series. If flat dash is standard on M3 in USA, M Drive will cost more than 2500 I am sure. Hope that makes sense.

I kinds a think it might look like this:

M3: $58,500
M-drive: $1,200
EDC: $1,000
Nav: $2,200

$62,900

Why is everyone missing the fact we keep bloating the price of simple upgrades..?

My sterao upgrade was 1,100 in my last BMW, why would it be $2,300 because it's an M3..?

In other words, how could BMW justify M-Drive for an additional $3,300 ...? When it can as easily be an $1,700 option and still make profit..?

Nav alone on a 3 series is 2100, you have to have Nav to get M Drive, you cannot program M Drive without Nav/iDrive interface...so I agree M Drive will cost little if iDrive minus Nav is standard (like on the 5 series) but if the m3 comes flat dash, 2500 for M Drive minimum...

AFAIK, basic MDrive is controlled by buttons. It does NOT require the navigation system. When you have Nav, you gain control of the steering assist programs, as well. The BMW Press Release alludes to this "optionally available MDrive configuration" as distinct from basic MDrive. If I had time I'd look up where I read a more complete description, but go to go to work now.

Call me a purist.......I will skip both, along with power seats. I am not sure how much weight this will account for though every pound counts!

There seem to be plenty of "options" now available on cars which are somewhat useless. Seriously, who needs headlights that come on when it gets dark, or rain sensing wipers. Folks who are unable to tell when it gets dark, or when it is raining simply should not drive!

I will probably skip MDrive and EDC too, but I don't think you can get one without power seats can you?

As for the auto wipers and lights, the wipers don't come on automatically, you still have to turn them on. You just don't have to adjust them as the rain changes. And the auto lights are a safety feature, just like DSC. No one is perfect, and a car with no lights on because someone forgot that one time is just as deadly as one with no lights on because the person is an idiot.

The only options I am seriously considering are EDC and 19"s. I am on the fence about DCT, but most likely will not order it. The rest doesn't interest me at all, especially navigation. I really hope this thing comes standard without the ugly dash hump.

According to the price list M-Drive is only available in combination with:
602 - This option is not listed in the price list I have
606 - Nav business
609 - Nav Professional

It is not available with
663 - Radio Professional
Obviously; you need a screen in order to see what you are doing.

It would be interesting to know what "602" is, anybody out there with a more detailed list?
